Asean's strategy against US tariffs

Oped, Kavi Chongkittavorn, Published on 22/04/2025

» On April 2, President Donald Trump's so-called "Liberation Day" quickly morphed into "Solidarity Day" for all 10 members of Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean).

Be wary of the TikTokalypse on the radar

Oped, Todd G Buchholz, Published on 31/01/2025

» When the United States president, Congress and Supreme Court are all in a tizzy at the same time, the topic under discussion is usually a global meltdown or, at the very least, income taxes. Today, the concern is dancing cat videos. In his first day back in the White House, Donald Trump launched a strike against the Court and Congress by signing an executive order to pause the ban on TikTok, earning applause from the Chinese-owned company. TikTok's online content creators are relieved, too, for many warn that a ban (or a forced sale to a US company) would devastate them. I call it the TikTokalypse.

Sunscreen and our move towards a sun-safe future

Oped, Charlotte Mathieson, Published on 14/09/2024

» It's April 2000. I'm 14 years old, lying on a beach in the Bahamas, a bottle of SPF 20 at my side. I periodically check to see how my suntan is developing, watching with fascination as my pale white skin turns a deep, chestnut brown. Through the headphones of my Discman, Baz Luhrmann is telling the class of '99 to "trust me on the sunscreen". I nod along to the beat, oblivious to the irony. Luhrmann's caution is ahead of the curve.

Thai foreign policy to shift with new foreign minister

Oped, Kavi Chongkittavorn, Published on 07/05/2024

» It's not comforting to discuss Thai foreign policy at the moment, as one can hardly tell what is going to happen next.

Who are the beneficiaries of 'free speech'?

Oped, Peter Singer, Published on 10/11/2022

» How is it that a man who has banned 83 million people from Twitter can freely use the platform to post his messages denigrating women and supporting the brutal attack on the writer Salman Rushdie? I'm referring to the leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, whose government is killing young women who want to be able to show their hair in public.
