Green energy's unseen toll on our river systems

News, Arisara Lekkham, Published on 13/01/2026

» At global climate forums, the clean energy transition is framed as progress --necessary, urgent, and inevitable. Governments reaffirm commitments to move away from fossil fuels and accelerate renewable energy, electric vehicles, and digital infrastructure. From a distance, the pathway to a greener future appears orderly and hopeful. From where I stand in Chiang Rai, it feels far less balanced.

Petprakai Hansiri, Published on 04/01/2026

Artists resist repression in Thailand, US

Oped, Sally Tyler, Published on 08/12/2025

Breaking the silence over North Korea

Oped, John J Metzler, Published on 29/05/2025

» Speaking out to break the information barrier inside the North Korean dictatorship is in itself nothing new, and usually quickly forgotten. North Korean exiles, friendly governments, and humanitarian organisations periodically raise the oft-forsaken banner of human rights, only to be confronted by realpolitik through another round of North Korean missile launches or nuclear proliferation.

Reform needs more than just a chainsaw

News, Diane Coyle, Published on 10/03/2025

» Billionaire and Department of Government Efficiency (Doge) czar Elon Musk and UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer could not be more different. But they share a stated common goal: cutting red tape and reducing the burden of government on businesses.

Oped, Kavi Chongkittavorn, Published on 07/01/2025

» This year will be eventful for the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean). In addition to the Myanmar issue and intensifying geopolitics, the Asean Community Vision 2045 will be ready in May and will chart the course for its 770 million-strong population over the next two decades.

» Three cheers for the Medical Council for its nice covert detective work on a former prime minister and his mysterious illnesses.
