» Reading about the extensive flooding in the North and Northeast got me thinking about the worst inundations experienced in Bangkok. It was probably back in 1983 when much of the city was underwater for several weeks. However one that really affected me was a few years later in 1986 after a huge storm had left the eastern part of Bangkok awash.

» Accompanying the student-led protests against the government that continue to spread in many provinces, are new hashtags. #ไอเดียออกม๊อบ (unofficially translates to #IdeasForMob) is the latest one that has caught my eyes. Thai twitter users use the hashtag to come up with ways to make the protest more fun and interesting. Leave it to Thais to find lighter sides of things. Here are a few examples. g

» During the early 1970s, my main source of recorded music in Bangkok was a little shop called Rex Records on Phetchaburi Road. In addition to having a decent collection of vinyl albums, it also provided a useful service by transposing albums onto cassette tapes which was then the most common form of listening to music.
