» I will never tire of going to Bali (does one ever?), despite the lengthy immigration queues and long baggage claim wait. Though it is Ubud that I am most fond of. Apart from the quaint little town, Ubud offers a plethora of choices in the private retreat vein and Viceroy Bali is no exception.

Secret services

Guru, Eric E Surbano, Published on 28/02/2020

» Bangkok is rapidly becoming a city with innovations that make life much easier. Yes, we at Guru have complained a lot about the city's many negative aspects but we also can't deny that the city has improved. Is there room for improvement? Oh, definitely. But there are many things that we use right now that we simply cannot imagine life without. What would life be without the services of GrabFood to deliver meals to your door or Shopee and Lazada to do your shopping from the comfort of your home? How about the Lock Box storage facilities we see in many BTS and MRT stations that help tourists roam without having to drag their luggage with them? Can we forget about the lifesaving GrabTaxi and GrabBike services? There are more services on the rise that you may not know about and that's what we're here to spotlight this week.

People Who Do Worse Jobs Than You

Guru, Pornchai Sereemongkonpol, Published on 15/03/2019

» At the risk of sounding like a Debbie Downer (or should I say Sad Somchai), there may be days when we question whether we're doing well or enough at our jobs e.g. making a typo and struggling to write something relevant and fun on a weekly basis. And once that feeling takes over, you can console yourself by looking for people who're at worse at their jobs compared to you, automatically patting yourself on the back. The good news is that you don't have to look far -- and I've done that for you, dear reader. These examples should leave you thinking, "I'm not that bad."

Dinner under the stars

Guru, Nianne-Lynn Hendricks, Published on 16/11/2018

» With the Bangkok dining scene bursting at its seams, hotel dining has taken a back seat. More so for hotels in the 'burbs. Centara Grand at Central Plaza Ladprao Bangkok is more of a business hotel, with a convention centre attached to it. But, it does have a few good dining outlets -- like Blue Sky. Perhaps the only rooftop bar in that part of town, Blue Sky offers a panoramic view of the suburbs from 24-storey high.
