The longevity flex: hit the track, not the bar

Petprakai Hansiri, Published on 04/02/2026

» Social feeds are hitting differently lately, teeming with a younger crowd at parks. Instead of the strobes and neon of a nightclub, the feed is filled with morning mist and the greenery of public parks.

A 10-day journey across snowy Iran

Roger Crutchley, Published on 22/06/2025

» Watching events unfold in the Middle East last week sparked memories of the brief time I spent in Iran a long time ago in more peaceful times. In February 1969 I travelled across the northern part of the nation during an overland trip from London to New Delhi. The country was still run by the Shah who was overthrown 10 years later in the Iranian Revolution.

» It came as a shock to learn that long-time friend and colleague Colin Hastings died on Monday in Bang Saray when he suffered heart failure and the car he was driving collided with a wall. He was 73. Here are a few personal memories of Colin, best known as publisher of Big Chilli magazine.

The remarkable lady from Nutbush

News, Roger Crutchley, Published on 28/05/2023

» Tributes have poured in for Tina Turner who sadly passed away at the age of 83 this week in Switzerland. I would like to add a small, if inadequate thank you to this wonderful performer who brought such joy to millions. The Stones just keep rolling along

News, Roger Crutchley, Published on 17/07/2022

Situations vacant: Bouncer, must be polite

News, Roger Crutchley, Published on 31/10/2021

» Troubling news from Britain. One in five nightclubs in the UK have not been able to reopen owing to a shortage of bouncers. For anyone unfamiliar with this terminology, bouncers are the big blokes at club doors whose main role is to chuck out undesirables. And if you still don't get the message, they are usually dressed in black. However, they are officially known as "door supervisors" which certainly looks better on a CV than "bouncer".

Absolving Peter to pay Paul?

Just a fallen scoop of ice cream

News, Vitaya Saeng-Aroon, Published on 13/03/2019

» Picture this TV ad: in an ice cream parlour, a gorgeous woman with the looks of a super-model waits for her order. With her appearance, make-up and dress, she resembles the delicious strawberry fondue ice cream she ordered. Her stunning beauty turns heads, especially those of male patrons sitting nearby with their eyes ready to pop out.
