The rise of the 'Finternet' reality

Oped, Agustín Carstens and Nandan Nilekani, Published on 28/05/2024

» The financial system is ready for a giant leap forward. It's time to explore new frontiers. We foresee a time when applying for a mortgage or a small business loan could be as easy as texting a friend or booking a hotel room online.

Once upon a time there were no mobiles

News, Roger Crutchley, Published on 21/08/2022

» The other day in a restaurant I watched some Thai youngsters who appeared much more interested in their smartphones than what they were eating. Their obvious phone skills made me quite envious but also just a little melancholy -- a reminder of how much things have changed since my early days, otherwise known as the Stone Age.

Covid's real cost could well be eternal spying

News, Andy Mukherjee, Published on 11/05/2020

» Much of our pre-coronavirus lives may be reclaimable with some modifications around how we work, socialise and travel. Life is an illusion

News, Postbag, Published on 12/06/2019

» All forms of government are only an illusion. It is what one accepts and is happy with, for whatever reasons. North Koreans know no other government so they are happy in the illusion that theirs is the best. The old Stalinists live with the illusion that the USSR was the best. Americans live with the illusion that their democracy is the best, and most Thais somehow do not really care one way or another as long as they are left alone to pursue their lives.

Global warning

News, Postbag, Published on 25/05/2019

» I heard some Thai youth were due to protest older people's inaction in this country on global warming yesterday in Bangkok. Given the horrors that await them if little or nothing is done by our leaders, I hope they are successful in getting some action from people who seem totally oblivious to the problem, or are too old or inflexible to care.

OPINION

Show them the way

Life, Arusa Pisuthipan, Published on 13/05/2019

» It's something of a surprise that, until now, the United Nations has never released a recommendation on physical activity for children under the age of five. Now, at least, the international agency realises that it is important to have proper guidelines for little ones who, after all, represent the future of our planet.
