Oped, Editorial, Published on 13/02/2026

» The school shooting in Songkhla on Wednesday is a stark reminder that schools -- which should be the safest of places -- remain vulnerable to gun attacks.

A fond farewell to the poster people

Oped, Roger Crutchley, Published on 08/02/2026

» For a couple of months the streets in Bangkok and throughout Thailand have been decorated with posters of political candidates. But now the Big Day has arrived and soon the posters will disappear. In a strange sort of way, I will miss their presence as they were at least something to look at when stuck in the traffic. They generally appeared to be a cheerful lot, beaming at us with big cheesy grins as one would expect in the Land of Smiles.

Phasing out coal makes economic sense

Oped, Rapeepat Ingkasit, Published on 24/12/2025

» Thailand's recent update to its Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC 3.0) was met with polite applause from diplomatic circles and global communities. Oped, Mariano Carrera, Published on 17/10/2025

» We need to be asking, "Is there a better way?" or "What else is there?" and "How can we improve?" These three simple questions direct growth, innovation and ambition, which are the qualities required in personal, business and social life.

Time to help Rohingya refugees

Oped, Kannavee Suebsang, Mercy Chriesty Barends & Andrew Hudson, Published on 29/09/2025

» Just over eight years since 700,000 Rohingya were forced out of Myanmar over the border into Bangladesh in what the UN has described as a "textbook example of ethnic cleansing", people continue to languish in camps in Cox's Bazar without access to work or education. Those remaining in Myanmar are largely confined to internally displaced camps, or forcibly conscripted to fight for the military junta.

OPINION

Little sympathy

Oped, Postbag, Published on 11/09/2025

» Re: "Act now, as Suu Kyi is gravely ill", (Opinion, Sept 10). The problem with most activists and this freedom fighter is that they are very good at finding fault in others, not themselves. In a world where charisma trumps character, forgive the pun: Ms Suu Kyi is no exception.
