Socialism's novel brand of nomenclature

Oped, John J Metzler, Published on 18/11/2025

» On Nov 9, 1989, the Berlin Wall collapsed. On a very ordinary night, thousands of East Germans started crossing the dividing barrier between the communist East and capitalist West Berlin after the East German regime had suddenly opened tightly controlled border crossings. In a matter of hours, history was made. Throngs of people soon swamped the Wall and then started smashing the hated communist barrier into concrete rubble.

Noise pollution destroying condo life

Oped, Michel Rosmolen, Published on 09/12/2023

» With the city's skyline constantly evolving, Bangkok's condominium market continues to surge, offering breathtaking views, contemporary designs, and unparalleled amenities. But there's an often overlooked aspect every buyer should prioritise before making an investment: noise insulation. Eternal City's charms to boost World Expo chances

Oped, Romeo Orlandi, Published on 08/07/2022

» A stroll through downtown Rome is enough to understand why the city earned the title of "Eternal City", and how well deserved it is. Its many and deep layers of history coexist together, overlapping in a harmonious whole. This historical stratification is invaluable for scholars, unique for the city's proud inhabitants, and fascinating for tourists from all over the world. For more than two thousand years the capital of Italy has offered an example of awe-inspiring continuity, of thriving splendour, and of a profound and diverse artistic richness. Now this city has offered to host the 2030 World Expo.

The politics of the Chadchart juggernaut

Oped, Thitinan Pongsudhirak, Published on 01/07/2022

» In countries where integrity, competence and popular legitimacy in leadership are valued -- for example, in Scandinavia, Singapore or Taiwan -- Bangkok governor Chadchart Sittipunt would be considered fairly average. He would merely be another good leader who exudes modesty, humility, capability and authenticity, always in touch with and answerable to his constituents.

Job vacancy: Must be good at promises

News, Roger Crutchley, Published on 15/05/2022

» This time next week the good citizens of Bangkok will be choosing the person daft enough to want to be the next governor of the angelic metropolis known as Krungthep. Amazingly there are 31 otherwise perfectly sensible, intelligent people prepared to take on this thankless task.
