» No country turns 60 like Singapore. In a neighbourhood of political dynasties and varying shades of autocracies and flawed democracies, the little island state of six million got lucky with its strongman rule. When he died in 2015, Singapore's patriarchal founder Lee Kuan Yew left a great country behind. This weekend, Singaporeans can take stock of what's gone by and rightly celebrate its milestone with much to show for.

» On Nov 13, a coalition of 160 civil society organisations in Thailand made a historic plea, submitting a joint statement urging the Thai government to champion a strong Global Plastics Treaty at the upcoming fifth and final negotiations in Busan, South Korea. This treaty, initiated in 2022, aims to establish a legally binding global framework to address plastic pollution across its entire life cycle.

The most recent murder of a 13-year-old who was stabbed in the neck by a 14-year-old classmate after a school assembly and the murder of Buaphan Tansu by a youth gang in Sa Kaeo leave most perpetrators unsentenced criminally due to their age (under 15) even if the court finds them guilty of the crime. These tragic incidents and lack of criminal sentencing for the offenders have sparked a public outcry echoing through the streets and halls of justice for change.
