The 548 new cases are 12% of Thailand's 4,331 cumulative diagnoses of Covid-19 since January this year. This is also the largest single outbreak of the virus in Thailand, exceeding even the army-owned Lumpinee Boxing Stadium cluster, with more cases surely to be found in Samut Sakhon in coming days.

» Arriving in Phuket, everything looked different. I felt the silence as crowds of foreign tourists have disappeared from Phuket International Airport. The atmosphere was lonelier than usual with only a small group of passengers gathering at the luggage belt. There were no long queues in front of the bathrooms or check-in counters.

» More than two months after the government launched a probe into alleged extortion of hoteliers in Pattaya who wanted to turn their premises into state quarantine facilities, the investigation appears to have gone nowhere. Or at least the public has not been informed of the results or the progress if any has been made. It's not clear if the probe is still on.
