'Land bridge' will harm nature

Oped, Kitichate Sridith, Published on 31/12/2025

» The end of 2025 brought Thais the good news that one of the world's most endangered felines -- the flat-headed cat -- has not gone extinct in our nation, as had long been feared. But our natural heritage is under relentless pressure. We need to treat our habitats, flora and fauna as assets that demand science-led protection.

A Faustian bargain for the Global South

Oped, Jayati Ghosh, Published on 05/08/2025

» US President Donald Trump's tariff policies have unleashed global economic turmoil and a wave of protectionist measures. While many of his frequently changing tariffs may prove short-lived, their use as geopolitical weapons is poised to reshape international trade for years to come.

Oped, Somsak Wiwatpaisal, Published on 27/03/2025

» Re: "Gender woes in sports", (PostBag, Aug 4). Miro King, in support of real women, is right to be upset about the Olympic boxing matches. There seems to be unfairness in the match between Angela Carini and Imane Khelif, who was born a woman, albeit with male-genetic XY chromosomes.

» Re: "Time to solve fish invasion", (Editorial, July 19) and "Really fishy business", (Editorial, July 6). The BP editorial highlights the problem created by an invasive species of freshwater fish called blackchin tilapia. Tilapia are the third world's salmon, a valuable food fish rich in protein and easy to cultivate.

Time to solve fish invasion

Oped, Editorial, Published on 19/07/2024

» The invasion of blackchin tilapia -- an alien fish species banned in Thailand -- speaks volumes about a lack of protection of biodiversity, which negatively impacts the local fishery business.

Yesterday’s shadow

» Re: “Court to hear Srettha case”, (BP, May 24) and “Thailand’s judiciary face challenges”, (Opinion, May 24). Prof Thitinan Pongsudhirak’s biting comments on the judiciary’s influence on the lifeline of an elected prime minister are most justified based on past events. For the coming challenge facing our Constitutional Court, it is different from the past. The court’s 5-4 vote not suspending PM Srettha’s lifeline before he has the chance of defence is laudable.
