The time I really put my foot in it

Oped, Roger Crutchley, Published on 19/10/2025

» A half-hearted spring-cleaning session at home during the week came to a welcome halt when I unearthed a couple of my father's wartime RAF books under a pile of disintegrating paperbacks. The Air Ministry books, published more than 80 years ago, always serve as a reminder of when as a kid I made a faux pas of embarrassing proportions.

» Re: "Porosity can reduce city flood effects", (Opinion, July 2). Nuntachart Ratanaburi, a researcher with the TDRI proposes that increased porosity should be incorporated in Bangkok by using porous cement, asphalt, and "green" strategies to reduce flooding. Oped, Mahmoud Mohieldin & Claire Melamed, Published on 06/08/2024

» Late last month, the United Nations convened world leaders and development experts in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, to try to focus minds on the need for more development finance. In the face of tight government budgets, a looming debt crisis, and the chronic challenge of attracting private investment, the outlook for many developing countries -- especially in Africa -- seems bleak.

Dam threatens World Heritage status

Oped, Supara Janchitfah, Published on 14/09/2023

» Seated in a four-wheel drive vehicle, I could see a few big trees on the edge of Khao Yai National Park. Crossing one creek after another, I learned how they help mitigate fast-flowing waters from flooding towns further downstream.
