Guru, Nianne-Lynn Hendricks, Published on 10/06/2022

» One of my favourite chef’s tables in Bangkok is Aromkwan, which has recently moved to a new location and is offering double the food and double the fun for B3,800 per person (plus vat) and includes free-flow mineral water.

A place in the sun

Guru, Suthivas Tanphaibul, Published on 14/05/2021

» Breathing the fresh air, punctual bus schedules, smooth and clean pavements and streets. Do you remember these simple joys when travelling abroad? I bet everyone entertains the thought of spending their last breath in a particular city that is not home. Within the span of few days, a Facebook group called "Let's Move Abroad" has become a viral online phenomenon as Thai netizens gather to discuss and share their aspirations to flee a place where they were born and raised.

Serving green realness

Guru, Nianne-Lynn Hendricks, Published on 14/02/2020

» Despite the despicable air quality we all long for green open spaces to hang out. A longing, which has been heard by new cafes, bars and dining spaces. In a concrete jungle where every square metre is a baht sign, it is rare to find such spaces.

A taste of Isan

Guru, Nianne-Lynn Hendricks, Published on 14/12/2018

» Blink or you'll miss it! Tucked away, at the top of Thong Lor 17, next door to the Family Mart, in what looks like a small Chinese shophouse is the latest branch of Somtum Der. Opened in March, it's the first branch in Bangkok after the original Somtum Der opened in Sala Daeng in 2012.

Tradition meets modern

Guru, Pasavat Tanskul, Published on 07/12/2018

» Situated at the top of the strikingly-designed Siam@Siam Design Hotel, Taan (its name taken from the Thai word "to eat") focuses on "hyper-local" ingredients taken from the various provinces of Thailand. "Hyper-local" referring to the fact that the restaurant works with local farmers who help cultivate ingredients, which are transported on the same day as harvest, ensuring the food is fresh.

Dinner under the stars

Guru, Nianne-Lynn Hendricks, Published on 16/11/2018

» With the Bangkok dining scene bursting at its seams, hotel dining has taken a back seat. More so for hotels in the 'burbs. Centara Grand at Central Plaza Ladprao Bangkok is more of a business hotel, with a convention centre attached to it. But, it does have a few good dining outlets -- like Blue Sky. Perhaps the only rooftop bar in that part of town, Blue Sky offers a panoramic view of the suburbs from 24-storey high.

Delight in every bite

Guru, Nianne-Lynn Hendricks, Published on 19/10/2018

» It is not often that one expects to find a gem in the food hall of a department store. However, the Flour Shoppe is just that -- a hidden gem. Tucked at the back of Central Chidlom's Food Hall with a small outdoor terrace, the eatery specialises in southern American and classic American diner fare. Chef and patron Brian Hill is a pastry chef at heart but since he grew up in the US, decided to incorporate his favourite food into a menu that will have you salivating in no time.

Savour Spain

Guru, Nianne-Lynn Hendricks, Published on 25/05/2018

» Taburete is not new to the Bangkok food scene. In fact, it moved from a small space on Sukhumvit 24 to Soi Sala Daeng a year-and-a-half ago, taking with it the same tastes and flavours. In a slightly bigger space now, with an outdoor terrace area that has four tables, Taburete's quaint concrete facade and fancy grillwork transports one to Spain, where lazy afternoons are spent people-watching while sipping sangria, minus Bangkok's mosquitoes. Once through the wooden doors, you are actually in a tapas bar that has no more than four tables, with a long table against the French window for the streetview.

» Eats Payao Home-Bar & Kitchen has recently relocated into a townhouse on Yen Akat Road. If you've been following them since the beginning, you know that they've come far since the K-Village Farmer's Market and this is their fourth reincarnation. It's also much more than a mere change of address.
