» The charter court’s decision to suspend Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha until it hands down a ruling over his controversial eight-year term limit as prime minister could be a bad omen for the army chief-turned-politician who, until this week, has run the country since 2014. Despite Gen Prayut weathering political storms and surviving many censure debates during the past three years, the onerous eight-year-tenure issue will soon be resolved.

» On the one hand, the Criminal Court's verdict on Wednesday, which threw core figures of the now-defunct People's Democratic Reform Committee (PDRC) in jail for their role in the 2013-2014 protests, means a cabinet reshuffle is on the way. Particularly for the Palang Pracharath Party (PPRP), the ruling is a political windfall for the faction led by Deputy Prime Minister Gen Prawit Wongsuwon who can now tighten his grip on the ruling party.

Unfortunately, in his efforts to defend the indefensible, Vint Chavala falls into a common corruption of those whose position is intellectually and morally untenable. He has either not read Yuval Noah Harari’s excellent books, merely copying what others have said about them, or he has failed to understand what Harari says, or he has committed a more serious moral and intellectual sin.
