A journey back in time

» Sharing a border with Bangkok, Nonthaburi once served as a fortress town, but nowadays it is a popular weekend hideaway where local tourists can unwind and discover Ayutthaya-era history. To save time, King Thai Sa constructed the Lat Kret Noi network as a detour on the maritime trade route connecting the Gulf of Siam and the former capital of Ayutthaya.

Life, Thana Boonlert, Published on 10/05/2022

» After a two-year hiatus, Thanyaporn Khongkrathok, 17, and her friends dusted off their kaleidoscopic bird-like costumes. LIFE

Old versus new

Life, Suthon Sukphisit, Published on 21/09/2018

» Culinary art keeps evolving. Nothing is the same when looking back 50 years, when the same kind of food was completely different from today. It is quite difficult to predict future food style. It would be possible that shrimp with spicy soup might add vermicelli or black bean. Or pad Thai might add red tilapia fish. Or soybean milk might replace coconut milk in green curry.

Mackerel: Fish of the nation

Life, Suthon Sukphisit, Published on 31/08/2018

» Thai mackerel has its own specific habitat along the Gulf of Thailand. Because of its small size with a round and short shape, it makes Thai mackerel different from mackerel living in Indian and Pacific oceans, which Thais often call Indo-mackerel.

Likay lives on

Life, John Clewley, Published on 07/08/2018

» My first experience of popular theatre in Thailand was a likay performance in the main market in Chumpon. I had not been in Thailand for long and was on my way back from a trip to Malaysia, travelling by local bus and train.
