Reclaiming past beauty

B Magazine, Pattarawadee Saengmanee, Published on 12/07/2020

» Once a major route connecting Bangkok and Chachoengsao during the reign of King Rama V, the old waterside community of Hua Takhe Market rises and shines again with the "Save The Date I RakDok Floral Week(s)" festival that runs until Aug 4.

LIFE

A whole lot of vibes, but not much else

B Magazine, Chanun Poomsawai, Published on 21/06/2020

» "When I look around my heart, I can see the doors have closed," LA-based singer-songwriter Martin Roark sings in the opening verse of In Dreams, his best known single popularised by the cult-favourite HBO series High Maintenance.

Into the Great Unknown

B Magazine, Chanun Poomsawai, Published on 08/12/2019

» Over the years, avid neoclassical fans may have seen the name Anne Müller popping up alongside the genre's staples like Nils Frahm, Ben Lukas Boysen and Ólafur Arnalds. And for good reason -- the classically trained Berlin-based cellist and composer is known for her inventive approach to compositions, a skill which has manifested itself in her (perhaps best-known) contribution to Frahm's 2011 7fingers and 2017 Solo Collective Part I, a live project she co-founded with violinist/singer Alex Stolze and pianist/conceptual artist Sebastian Reynolds.

Snowed in

B Magazine, Chanun Poomsawai, Published on 08/09/2019

» "If I lay here/ If I just lay here/ Would you lie with me/ And just forget the world?" Honestly, it's hard not to automatically think of the devastating chorus of Chasing Cars whenever the band Snow Patrol is mentioned. To a great extent, the Northern Irish/Scottish quintet have American hospital drama Grey's Anatomy to thank for single-handedly popularising the song through one of the series' heart-rending season finales. Snow Patrol suddenly became a household name worldwide, continuing the legacy of post-Britpop previously jump-started by bands like Travis, Coldplay and Keane.

LIFE

Tomorrow Starts Today

B Magazine, Chanun Poomsawai, Published on 24/02/2019

» From returning to college, starring in the Netflix series The OA and getting pregnant, New York-based singer-songwriter Sharon Van Etten has had a busy few years prior to the arrival of her fifth studio outing, Remind Me Tomorrow. The record, helmed by indie rock's go-to producer John Congleton (St. Vincent, Future Islands, Unknown Mortal Orchestra), reflects those changes in her life via a stylistic shift that emphasises less on the guitars, but more on other instruments like synths, pianos and even occasional drones.

LIFE

One more for the road

B Magazine, Andrew Biggs, Published on 25/11/2018

» Yesterday, the Ploenchit Fair completed a full circle. The quintessential British event returned to its mother's breast, the British embassy, as a swansong for the grounds themselves. There are not that many annual events on the expat calendar that have stood the test of time. There are the various embassy balls, of course, and this year Fight Night made a successful return after its alleged demise in 2016.

Mitski, demystified

B Magazine, By Chanun Poomsawai, Published on 26/08/2018

» Born to an American father and a Japanese mother, Mitski Miyawaki spent her childhood essentially being a nomad and a stranger in foreign lands. After stints in countries like Congo and Turkey, she relocated to New York, where she pursued her artistic passions, dabbling in film study before eventually focusing on music. This gave her a bit of a head start in the industry because, by the time she graduated, she'd already self-released two records, Lush and Retired From Sad, New Career In Business, as part of her school projects.
