Close statute legal loophole

Oped, Editorial, Published on 31/03/2026

» The decision by officials to drop all legal charges against Phra Dhammajayo, the former abbot of Wat Phra Dhammakaya, raises alarm bells about the exploitation of the statute of limitations in the justice system.

Poor timing

Oped, Postbag, Published on 12/03/2026

» I was stunned by the airing of American Psycho (unedited version, sic) at 12.15pm on True Visions Channel 228. This movie is only suitable for late-night viewing (parents note) at best, given its horrific and lewd content, although we are assured by film critics that it is a satire of contemporary society. Given ongoing developments, this seems to be true. It's going to get a remake too, God help us.

Talk, don't fight

» Re: "Cambodia talks ruled out", (BP, Dec 11). I was saddened to see that there is no room for diplomacy in the dispute with Cambodia. To quote Churchill: "To jaw-jaw is always better than to war-war."

Oped, Editorial, Published on 13/05/2025

» The recent phenomenon of talk show hosts and social media influencers seeking justice for the downtrodden represents a worrying trend for Thailand. While these celebrity crusaders offer an expedient shortcut for those seemingly failed by traditional mechanisms, their existence suggests that something could be seriously wrong with the nation's justice system.

» Lower speed limits on roads in Bangkok's urban areas come as welcome news. Imposed to reduce road accidents, the rules passed by the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) have been in place and enforced since Dec 23.

Justice for Tak Bai victims

Oped, Editorial, Published on 01/10/2024

» Two months ago, the families of the victims killed in the Tak Bai incident in Narathiwat two decades ago finally saw justice reaching out to them after the provincial court accepted their lawsuit against eight senior officials who were allegedly involved.

Not too late for 'Boss' case

Oped, Editorial, Published on 31/08/2024

» Better late than never. This week, the Office of the Attorney General (OAG) filed charges against eight people accused of tampering with evidence to help Red Bull heir Vorayuth "Boss" Yoovidhya in his notorious 2012 hit-and-run case that resulted in a policeman's death.
