LIFE

When sleaze gets slick

B Magazine, Chanun Poomsawai, Published on 05/05/2019

» Fat White Family, for the uninitiated, are a South London group trading in all manners of classic punk depravities, rock'n'roll drug habits and songs with imaginatively risqué titles (Cream Of The Young, Is It Raining In Your Mouth?, Bomb Disneyland). Led by founding frontman Lias Saoudi, the band is notorious for their outrageous live gigs, where shocking antics and nudity are not uncommon. As a band, this collective transgression is the unique selling point upon which their 2013 debut album Champagne Holocaust and its follow-up Songs For Our Mothers hinged. It's also the very factor that contributed to "the sort of classic stereotypical drug meltdown", as Lias puts it in his recent interview with Noisey, which led to them getting dropped by US-based Fat Possum Records.

One more for the road

B Magazine, Andrew Biggs, Published on 25/11/2018

» Yesterday, the Ploenchit Fair completed a full circle. The quintessential British event returned to its mother's breast, the British embassy, as a swansong for the grounds themselves. There are the various embassy balls, of course, and this year Fight Night made a successful return after its alleged demise in 2016.

Rebuilding the past in Berlin

B Magazine, Anucha Charoenpo, Published on 08/04/2018

» In my high school Western history class, I struggled to remember dates and details. The horrors of World War II felt far away, and removed from my young life. But when I left to visit Berlin last month, I was in for an unforgettable experience.

Thai class flummoxes a university's pride and joy

B Magazine, Andrew Biggs, Published on 04/02/2018

» I have a great story to tell you that will appeal to any non-Thai currently doing battle with learning the Thai language. My life turned a full circle this week as I began a teaching gig at Ramkhamhaeng University Demonstration School. A gaggle of my best teachers are there conducting an extended English camp, and on day one I went to the school to show my face and chat to the students.
