When more isn't better

Guru, Eric E Surbano, Published on 27/08/2021

» Adding too much to something can make it overly complicated and almost unenjoyable whether it's putting too much salt in a dish or stuffing a bunch of superheroes in a movie, who weren't properly introduced in their standalone films (looking at you, original cut of Justice League). In the case of Assassin's Creed Valhalla, the base game provides a chunky amount of content, which is mildly enjoyable. But its second expansion, The Siege Of Paris, seems to be an expansion for expansion's sake.

Voices that matter

» It's been over a year since the coronavirus pandemic swept across Thailand. Restaurants, bars and other businesses have shut shop in droves while nightlife districts have turned into ghost towns. The streets are eerily empty while rental ads and closing signs are spotted on dusty iron shutters. Guru has gathered noted figures of the community to share their pride with us.

Guru, Kankanok Wichiantanon, Published on 11/10/2019

But if you look close enough, a great number of ancient homes are being brought back to life, reborn with renewed purpose. They demonstrate that embracing historical beauty along with modern innovation produces fascinating and profitable results, with the reassurance that architecturally significant homes are being kept alive. Over the recent years, such places have been popping up more and we hope they continue to. Guru has scoped out some of Bangkok's most admirable, century-old homes to discover the stories behind them.

Let's get political (art)

Guru, Pasavat Tanskul, Published on 08/03/2019

» With the upcoming general election finally happening on Mar 24, the fate of the city hangs in the balance of voters hoping for some actual policy changes that leans toward democracy. However, some may express scepticism and while expressing one's doubts and criticism could be met with scorn and censorship, there are a few people who have expressed their opinions in other forms -- namely street art. Enter Headache Stencil, an anonymous masked political painter whose art usually deals with Thailand's recent social and political happenings.
