After repeating the obligatory but egregiously false lie that this year was the hottest on record, the UN climate alarmists claim, "By 2060, under a high-emissions scenario, the Islamic Republic of Iran, Mongolia, Myanmar, Turkey and Uzbekistan could lose more than 70% of their glacier mass. These phenomena also add to sea-level rise, raising existential risks for some countries in the Pacific."

» Around the world, governments are trying to reinvent themselves in the image of business. Elon Musk's DOGE crusade in the United States is quite explicit on this point, as is Argentina's chainsaw-wielding president, Javier Milei. But one also hears similar rhetoric in the United Kingdom, where Cabinet Office Minister Pat McFadden wants the government to foster a "test-and-learn" culture and move towards performance-based management.

» A huge industry has emerged in recent years as China, the United States, the United Kingdom, and the European Union have made the safety of artificial intelligence a top priority. Obviously, any technology -- from cars and pharmaceuticals to machine tools and lawnmowers -- should be designed as safely as possible (one wishes that more scrutiny had been brought to bear on social media during its early days).

» A study published this week in Science makes a compelling case that people with long Covid have a chronic imbalance in their immune response. The findings don't explain why that immune response is out of whack, and needs confirming in larger studies. Still, this is an important new piece to the vexing puzzle that is long Covid.
