» Since Thailand's art scene flourished this year, especially in Bangkok, city residents had access to a diverse range of art. As the year draws to an end, Life spoke with Sukontip Nakasem, founder of Warin Lab Contemporary & La Lanta Fine Art, and Voravuj Sujjaporamest, founder of VS Gallery, about highlights and significant art events that happened this year. While Warin Lab Contemporary is renowned for presenting prevailing issues related to ecology and the environment, VS Gallery stands out for presenting issues related to marginalised people.

» For the last decade Hussein, a lanky Muslim Rohingya, has been breaking his Ramadan fast -- or iftar -- at the century-old Jami-ul-Islam Mosque in Soi Ramkhamhaeng 53. For Hussein, the mosque on this busy eastern neighbourhood of Bangkok is more than just a house of worship; it has become his second home, especially during Ramadan, the fasting month when family usually gathers round at sunset to eat the first meal together. Hussein, 27 and a father of one, misses his parents and relatives who continue to reside in refugee camps in Bangladesh.
A day in Soi Nana

» Located in a small road off Rama IV in Yaowarat, and not to be confused with the more well-known red-light district in Sukhumvit 4, Soi Nana has risen to become one of Thailand's tourist hot spots. Many of Chinatown's old buildings have been renovated into art spaces, cool bars, cute cafes, and quaint shophouses, turning the once sleepy area into a vibrant, go-to nightlife zone. A five-minute walk from MRT Hua Lamphong is all it takes. If you haven't the time to check out the area, we've done it for you. We've gone as far as visiting a handful of places to get you started. And remember, the street is a neighbourhood with people who live and work there, so be sure to have fun but also respect the locals.
