OPINION

Let's hope 2026 is not too amazing

Roger Crutchley, Published on 04/01/2026

» Well here we are on the fourth day of a brand new year. I trust everyone is holding up well after the festivities because it can be quite gruelling pretending to behave in a jovial fashion if you are not feeling jovial at all.

Maybe it's time to look on the bright side

Roger Crutchley, Published on 05/01/2025

» It is that time of the year when columnists are expected to make a few pertinent predictions concerning what could be in store for the next 12 months. We are also entering the Year of the Snake which is not particularly comforting.

Thailand through the looking glass

Roger Crutchley, Published on 07/01/2024

» It's that time of the year when newspaper columnists predict what's in store for the next 12 months. Hopefully it will be an improvement on last year. We have just about scraped through the Year of the Rabbit but I haven't got too much faith in what the Year of the Dragon has to offer. We cannot rule out another annus horribilis.

When people browsed in bookshops

Roger Crutchley, Published on 17/12/2023

» Earlier this week I watched the 1987 film 84 Charing Cross Road. The reason for my interest was that the road has always been my favourite London thoroughfare. The film, which I won't go into, is about a long-distance literary friendship between characters played by Anne Bancroft and Anthony Hopkins.

The rubber tree and the hopeful ant

News, Roger Crutchley, Published on 29/01/2023

» Throughout January PostScript has been written from my house balcony in Chaiyaphum while taking in a view of avenues of rubber trees with the occasional intrusion of stray chickens. In fact, I am surrounded by rubber trees.
