» It was Otis Redding who introduced me to the sound of Stax Records. I was about 15 at the time, enjoying a frothy coffee with a friend in a cafe in my hometown, Sheffield. I went over to the jukebox and saw a curiously titled song, Sittin' On The Dock Of The Bay. I pushed the buttons and the single, with its distinctive yellow finger-popping logo, flipped on the deck and ushered into the smoky fog of a Northern English 'greasy spoon' the heart-rending sound of Southern soul from the US. I've been a fan ever since.

» This week's Movie Talk, a film programme hosted by Acharn Songyote Waewhongsa every Thursday, will screen Brazil, a 1985 sci-fi classic by Terry Gilliam that tells a story of a bureaucrat in a retro-future world who tries to correct an administrative error and himself becomes an enemy of the state. The film stars Jonathan Pryce, Kim Greist and Robert De Niro.
