A fun time for classical

Life, S.P. Somtow, Published on 12/09/2024

» I've lived in Bangkok three times; first, as a child, between the ages of seven and twelve, sneaking out to see concerts by the Royal Navy Orchestra conducted by ML Usni Pramoj; next, as a young man, in the 1970s, battling to create new audiences; and finally, in my old age, for the last twenty years, when I've had the chance both to witness and to be a part of exciting new developments in music. Madame Butterflyin the age of human trafficking

Life, Somtow Sucharitkul, Published on 10/07/2018

» Tomorrow and on Thursday, Opera Siam's 17th season will close with two performances of one of the "top 10" operas, performed over 2,000 times around the world this year alone, Madame Butterfly. It's a tear-jerker, a relentlessly romantic piece full of famous melodies and a can't-lose formulaic plot: boy meets girl, boy dumps girl, girl kills herself.
