Diet of literature

Life, Parisa Pichitmarn, Published on 18/11/2016

» Ironically, seeing so much of one doctor may just help you keep all the other doctors away. In today's age, a physical visit isn't even necessary as you can just follow teachings and words of advice through various types of media. Thidakarn Rujipattanakul is one such doctor that proactively shares what she knows in an easy-to-digest format so the masses can easily understand.

The local superbrand won't be hosting a fashion show this fall -- they've opted instead to introduce their new collection in an exhibition that's nothing short of stunning.

The wonder of Oz at Thong Lor Art Space

Life, Parisa Pichitmarn, Published on 11/08/2016

» Everybody knows about Dorothy Gale and her adventures in Oz, but L. Frank Baum also has a bevy of other characters just as endearing and unique as the little girl who got tornadoed into the magical land away from her home in Kansas. If you've never heard of Tik-Tok before, Thong Lor Art Space offers you the chance to get up real close to what is possibly the world's first robot character portrayed in literature in The Adventures Of Tik-Tok, Man Of Oz this month. The first half will recount the adventures of the Wizard of Oz and Dorothy, before heading towards the land of Ev, where the "mechanical man" who was forgotten in a cave is later found by Dorothy.

Bollywood comes to town

Life, Parisa Pichitmarn, Published on 17/08/2016

» Want to try watching an Indian movie but don't quite know where to start? Now's your chance with the Indian Film Festival of Thailand, where you can relive Bollywood's biggest blockbusters for 150 baht per movie, as opposed to the 350 baht that the tickets usually cost on regular release. Perhaps better retitled the Deepika Padukone Film Festival of Thailand (she's in three of the seven films showing), some of the most popular movies from India's Tinseltown within the past three years will be showing at Paragon Cineplex from Aug 22-28. In this event hosted by MVP Entertainment, Zee Entertainment and Paragon Cineplex, the festival's opening will also see flash mob dances and interviews with Thai stuntmen who have worked in Bollywood. Prangthong Jitcharoenkul, author of India Mee Arai Ja Bok, will also be sharing her experiences while studying in India.

Forget historical accuracy, this is all about Hrithik's abs

» This obviously isn't going to win any Academy Award nominations. Director Ashutosh Gowariker may have been lauded for his taxing period drama Lagaan, which earned a nomination for the Oscar's Best Foreign Language Film in 2002, but his latest film, Mohenjo Daro, is a clichéd period epic that offers a confused peek into the past of a place that is now a Unesco World Heritage site. I mean, if you want "exotic" costumes, epic sets and a hero-unknowingly-related-to-this-city plot, this is just the thing.

When love and duty conquers pain and heartbreak

Life, Parisa Pichitmarn, Published on 08/08/2016

» Is it better to come across those big blows earlier in life so you have more time to adjust to them? Or is it better to encounter tragedies when you're older, when you have more experience and a deeper understanding of life? Despite its title, How I Love My Mother by Pariorn Watcharasiri is not a how-to book. The premise that calls for this memoir may be a gloomy one, but not all sob stories need to be tear-jerking.

Quite a character

» Phakdi "Try" Santaweesuk avoids the press like the plague. We didn't have to throw an ear-splitting fit on the floor the way his comic characters tend to, but it did take much pestering and badgering before the cartoonist for Ai Tua Lek -- which stars the nation's most popular mischief-maker, Pangpond -- agreed to come out of hiding.

» Two colossal brands are at play here: the first being New York City's most popular ghost-catching, proton-pack-toting squad, called the Ghostbusters, and the second being Hollywood's first lady of comedy that is Melissa McCarthy. Stew the two together and it becomes the don't-miss comedy of the summer, packed with familiarly satisfying ectoplasmic gags and villains that look like cartoon marshmallows.
