Guru, Nianne-Lynn Hendricks, Published on 17/09/2021

» The Banyan Tree hotel group is celebrating its 27th anniversary and what better way to celebrate travel again than at their newest resort in Thailand! Banyan Tree Krabi opened in October 26, 2020 on Tab Kaek Beach and is SHA-Plus credited, making it a retreat for foreign tourists, as well. The three ultra-exclusive beachfront pool villas, 10 beachfront pool villas and 59 pool suites, each with a private infinity pool, have a westward-facing view of sunset over the Andaman Sea.

A royal connection

» Staycations are the in thing, especially with the no travel ban. Though most of us choose not to stay in Bangkok, sometimes it's best to stay in the familiarity of a city we know so well. Spoilt for choice, I decided on The Athenee Hotel, a Luxury Collection Hotel.

A sense of peace

» Since my last vacay was at Amandari in Bali, it seemed fitting that the first holiday I took post-lockdown should be at Amanpuri in Phuket. Though this wasn't my first time at the resort, it certainly felt like it!

Reliving colonial charm

» I have always wanted to stay at The Cabochon Hotel on Sukhumvit 45, especially since it is also home to one of my favourite hide away bars in Bangkok. Bringing Old World charm to the modern age, the hotel reminds me of my family's summer home, which was built during colonial times.

Peaceful spirits

» Bali, especially for people like me, is not about following in the footsteps of Eat, Pray, Love. (I am more of an eat, prey, love kinda person). It is much more than a book or a movie. It is a place to relax, unwind and immerse in Balinese culture. To kick off 2020, there would be no better place to take a break from the world than Amandari.

Remarkably uncommon

» The one place I have been to almost every couple of months last year is Phuket. (I am sure, you've noticed). Has this put me off the island? No. Simply because each visit has been a different experience. Though this isn't my first stay at The Nai Harn Phuket, nothing about it gets old -- not the sun, not the sand, not the sea and definitely not the views.

Surround yourself by nature

» Winter isn't coming. It has arrived and what better way to embrace it than setting off for the North. It is the time of year when most of us urban concrete jungle dwellers head for cooler temperatures, where we can climb hills and trek mountains without breaking out into too much of a sweat. To get a head-start on this, I chose Canary Natural Resort in Chiang Rai for a weekend getaway.

Journey to peace

» Vietnam has always been a bit of a struggle to get to, with its visa restrictions and limited air connectivity. This has since changed with online e-visas and with the introduction of Bangkok Airways' flights to Nha Trang. This has also made it easier to get to Amanoi, derived from the Sanskrit word for peace, aman, and the Vietnamese word for place, no'i. Aman's first resort in Vietnam is perched over Vinh Hy Bay, where a nature park tumbles into crystal-clear waters. This secluded retreat is for those seeking serenity, though not without a bit of adventure.
