» Re: “Govt seeks source of alien fish influx”, (BP, July 21). It was with incredulity that I read, “Govt seeks source of alien fish influx”. The source will never be found of course, since a predatory bird could have dropped a pregnant tilapia from high in the air — any newly formed body of freshwater in Thailand will soon be populated with fish in just this manner.

» Re: “Court to hear Srettha case”, (BP, May 24) and “Thailand’s judiciary face challenges”, (Opinion, May 24). Prof Thitinan Pongsudhirak’s biting comments on the judiciary’s influence on the lifeline of an elected prime minister are most justified based on past events. For the coming challenge facing our Constitutional Court, it is different from the past. The court’s 5-4 vote not suspending PM Srettha’s lifeline before he has the chance of defence is laudable.

Police are preparing for a big turnout of demonstrators when parliament meets to vote on who should become Thailand’s new prime minister tomorrow. House Speaker Wan Muhamad Noor Matha has come out to warn demonstrators to maintain order since the event is significant and the parliament is an important place.

The Criminal Court approved bail for the two political activists, “Tawan” and “Bam”, who are on hunger strike to ensure human rights, freedom of expression, and the ending of Sections 112 and 116 concerning lese majeste and sedition, respectively. However, the two young girls insist on continuing their strike.

Too late for turtles

» Re: “Recycle to save sea life, dept urges”, (BP, Feb 2). The Department of Marine and Coastal Resources (DMCR) is asking us to recycle our plastic waste to help save sea life, but unfortunately too late for the 11 young turtles that died from ingested plastic mistaken for food in the 700-metre floating garbage patch off the Chon Buri coast.
