How secure are banks in Thailand

By med142, Created on: 31/01/2012, Last updated on: 01/01/2013

» Well they are not secure at all. I can not belive how lax they are in security, its totally ludicrous and a joke. A well planned robbery would demonstrate this. It could net many millions in one day maybe even billions. I have been in the banks here, many times i see many thousands of thai baht maybe...

    • tomb commented : You claim banks are very casual when it comes to handling money, and I partly agree with that. However, there are hardly any bank robberies in Thailand and certainly very few compared to western countries when robbing a bank or sticking up a gas station is common practice. So why change? What concerns me more is to know how safe my money is when I put it in a Thai bank. Will I ever see it back? Is there a chance the bank will go bankrupt? How good is the oversight on banks? These are more important questions. Although lack of security and bank robberies may incite criminals to rob, it'll always be the bank (or insurance) who picks up the tab. It's not if is the robbers will be stealing YOUR money. I think it's more important to question the bank commission and find out if they are protecting Thai and foreign account holders, and check if the government would be able to refund savers in case of a bankruptcy (deposit insurance of up to 1 million bank per customer per bank).

Hotels fires in Thailand. How safe is your hotel?

By med142, Created on: 13/03/2012, Last updated on: 12/12/2014

» Hotel fires in Thailand do happen and it will affect tourism badly also. Hotels have duty to ensure that their clients stay in a safe enviroment. That includes keeping uptodate all safety equipment and ensuring its checked on a regular basis. This should happen no matter how old the hotel is. They...

    • perplexed commented : I was hoping to find more information and details regarding topic. But apparently the subject matter and the 'information' provided don't seem to match. Very little is detail is given to "How Safe is Your Hotel". What is written is more focussed on the affect to tourism than to "How Safe is Your Hotel". - We just told over and over that a safety certificate is needed or required from a government agency. - Then we are told in detail how it affects tourism more that terrorism would. I guess what I'm saying is that maybe the topic should be - "How Hotel Fires Affect the Tourism Industry".

    • med142 commented : Hotel fires.how safe is your hotel is again exactly what is says. It makes people think about how safe the hotel is and that they may also not be covered by the travel insurance policy. It is all interconnected and also some simple things people who check in hotels can do.Such as ask to see the latest safety cert from the government. If the hotel asks why they just tell the truth and if the hotel tells someone no. Then they should go to another hotel. It will affect tourism also.
