Chiva-Som

Life, Pongpet Mekloy, Published on 19/03/2020

» The multiple-award-winning international health resort was named Best Destination Spa for the Condé Nast Traveller Spa Awards 2020. As with my previous visit two years ago, soon after check-in I attended the compulsory consultation session in which I was told to choose a goal for my stay. The consultant then scheduled the treatments and activities I needed to achieve it. My simple goal was relaxation. The day I left the resort, it was a mission delightfully accomplished.

Samet Ville Resort

Life, Pongpet Mekloy, Published on 02/04/2020

» Three weeks before the lockdown, having cancelled a trip to Japan, I decided to use my leave days at Ao Wai instead. This beach on Koh Samet of Rayong Province is one of my all-time favourites. Over the past 25 years, I've visited Ao Wai numerous times. Unlike most beaches on the island, this peaceful haven has only one resort. Somehow, I've never written about it until now.

Four Seasons Tented Camp Golden Triangle

Life, Pongpet Mekloy, Published on 17/09/2020

» There are not many places where ultimate luxury becomes one with the wilderness. This resort nestled on a forest-covered hillside on the bank of the winding Ruak River that separates Thailand from Myanmar, not far from the point where the waterway reaches the larger Mekong, is one of the rare few. Despite its location on the northern border, the property is convenient to reach from Bangkok. And thanks to Covid-19, the exceptional experience it offers is more affordable than ever.

Banyan Tree Samui

Life, Pongpet Mekloy, Published on 01/10/2020

» Over the past several months on Koh Samui peacefulness has prevailed, so much so that for the first time in six years green sea turtles came to lay eggs on the island. The secluded beach in front of this property was where three nests were found in February. In early April, 200 hatchlings emerged from the buried nests and hastily made their way into the sea which is their true home. I visited the all-pool villa resort earlier this month but, unlike the turtles, found the place not that easy to leave.

» Ask any Thai to mention the names of the five islands that immediately come to mind, chances are Koh Sichang would be included in the shortlist, maybe even the first. This small island 12km off the coast of Si Racha, Chon Buri, is the closest to the capital.

Hiding in plain sight

Life, Pongpet Mekloy, Published on 24/12/2020

» I'm no fan of paintings but I understand folks who are able to enjoy a visual feast by masters such as the likes of Michelangelo, Leonardo Da Vinci or Vincent Van Gogh. I do the same every time I find myself in a magnificent landscape. Indeed, Mother Nature is my favourite artist.
