    Keep your kid dialled out

Life, Sasiwimon Boonruang, Published on 17/06/2014

» Parents have their reasons for allowing their kids to own a mobile phone (or not). My seven-year-old daughter once asked me to buy her a mobile phone, in spite of the fact that she knew what my answer would be. She cited examples of her friends, who bring them to school — some even have iPhones!

» Last month, a family from the country found out that they had inadvertently built up a huge bill by purchasing items in a smartphone game and thus owed a fortune to a telecommunications company. The story hit the news and caused a public outcry and from what I know, at least three similar incidents have since become public knowledge.

» The plan to help consumers adapt to digital television broadcasts has taken more turns than a Formula One race circuit. In the latest confusing chapter, the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) said it was again changing its plan to alter the value of subsidy coupons from 1,000 baht each to 690 baht. Postbag: In praise of our one man show

    News, Published on 24/08/2014

» It is always interesting to read Kong Rithdee’s opinion column. “Zero is a sign of our brave new world” (Opinion, Aug 23) is another example of Khun Kong’s baffling views. I don’t know how old Khun Kong is, nor would I dare ask, but I’m sure he has been around through a number of different governments to see how they all were ineffective due to personal interests of our representatives, both elected and appointed, how they squabbled and manipulated, how the budgets ran amok, how grandiose populist projects nearly wrecked the Thai economy, how promises were so easily made and as easily never kept, and so forth.
