From Miles to Mahavishnu and beyond
Life, Joe Cummings, Published on 18/03/2014
» In 1971 an album entitled Inner Mounting Flame befuddled both rock and jazz radio DJs, many of whom put it aside as unplayable. The album sleeve depicted five musicians clothed in quasi-hippie gear and engaged in a collective meditative gaze. The sonic torrent spewing from the vinyl grooves was anything but calm, however, with a heavy rock grind, searing jazz scales and intense, Indian-inspired polyrhythms.

Festival of Healing
Life, Achara Ashayagachat, Published on 07/01/2014
» The Narathiwat district of Rueso has a reputation _ undeserved, some would say _ for being a hotspot of insurgency. Home to some 60,000 people, it tends to be categorised by the security forces as "troublesome", lumped together with neighbouring districts like Bacho, Yi-ngo, Rangae and Si Sakhon as well as Raman and Bannang Sata in the adjoining province of Yala. All of these areas have become notorious over the past few decades as bases for armed separatists operating in the far South _ or have been labelled as such by outsiders.
