Don't let our GDP contraction numbers scare you

    News, Published on 29/08/2013

» I believe there has been too much pessimism about Thailand's growth prospects recently. At the headline level, the 0.3% quarter-on-quarter contraction in the second quarter was viewed in isolation. However, what was forgotten was that the pace of contraction actually slowed from the first quarter, when growth had declined 1.7% quarter-on-quarter. Equally important is that inventory drawdown also dampened growth _ this in my view is a positive development. As producers restock in the coming quarters, growth will get a boost.
