    Postbag: Read all about it

    Published on 30/01/2014

» I read with interest Atiya Achakulwisut’s commentary (“Feb 2 election heralds more battles to come,’’ Jan 28). What is in store for the country is hard to predict.

    Don't choose corruption

    News, Published on 21/01/2014

» I do not wish to suggest which party should be, or shouldn't be voted into power as I am a regular visitor to this beautiful country of beautiful people, politicians excluded. But, anybody who steals from the people they are elected to serve is not corrupt, they are a coward and a thief and should be jailed. They should not be allowed to holiday abroad while running the country through a puppet, with the consent of the rest of the government, who are effectively aiding a felon.

    Reform must be inclusive

    News, Published on 31/01/2014

» With the caretaker Yingluck administration's decision to go ahead with Sunday's election, the anti-government movement is fighting back with a vengeance, raising fears of violence after the red shirts made it clear they would not sit idly by.

    Postbag: None of our business

    News, Published on 12/01/2014

» Not only do I agree with Mr P (PostBag, Jan 9) and Brian Stocks (PostBag, Jan 10) that it would be wrong for expats to involve themselves in anti-government rallies, but I think it's outrageous for PostBag writers to be supporting insurrection in this country.

Earlier in the year, things were not looking so good but Apple had a strong finish on the back of the sale of their latest products and claimed that 340 million iPhones were sold. Mandela's legacy puts that of our politicians to shame

News, Songkran Grachangnetara, Published on 09/12/2013

» Nelson Mandela was a man greatly admired throughout the world, and in death his message lives on. This fragile, softly spoken, human rights colossus went to war against the mighty apartheid regime and won. His allies were freedom and justice. His weapons were his convictions and his indomitable spirit. In the end, numerous leaders of the free world flocked to join his cause. A believer in liberty and equal rights for all, regardless of colour or creed; a belief he was willing to die for.

Anti-graft push needs more than gloss

    News, Published on 11/11/2013

» There is something odd and disturbing about the conventional wisdom surrounding the Third Plenum of the 18th Central Committee of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). As the Nov 9-12 conclave is taking place, the international community's attention seems to be focused mainly on technocratic policy changes deemed essential to restructuring China's state-dominated economy and re-energising growth.

    Media mired by binary blinders

News, Pavin Chachavalpongpun, Published on 08/12/2013

» It has been a long and winding road for Thai democracy. The ongoing anti-government demonstration, spearheaded by member of parliament-turned-mob leader Suthep Thaugsuban, has exposed a serious problem facing the nation: the crisis of electoral politics. Starting off with rallying against the controversial amnesty bill, the demonstrators have now switched to the issue of corruption and tyranny of majority. They ride on the discourse of the ''Thaksin regime'' as a kind of immoral and devilish pattern of politics and advocate the overthrow of the elected government of Yingluck Shinawatra.
