Kids deserve better

    Oped, Postbag, Published on 24/12/2016

» Re: "The vision and illusion of Thailand 4.0", (Opinion, Dec 23). It is of course absolutely correct to point out that Somkid Jatusripitak's vision for Thailand as a developed nation on par with the likes of Japan and Singapore cannot be achieved without a new generation of young people educated to a much higher standard than their predecessors, and equipped with critical and creative minds, which would of course depend upon the ability to express thoughts and opinions freely.

    A good old punch-up

    News, Postbag, Published on 22/10/2016

» Back in the 1970s, my mates and fellow supporters of Millwall FC liked nothing better than a good old punch-up before, after and during a game, well lubricated by a couple of dozen pints of beer of course. One time I laid into this bloke so badly that the judge put me away for grievous bodily harm. Football hooligans they called us. But now thanks to Gen Paiboon Koomchaya I know the judge got it all wrong. It was just performing social sanctions against the "other side". It makes me feel so much better. I think I will just nip out and beat up the first person I meet who disagrees with anything I say.

    Get real about terror threats

    News, Postbag, Published on 14/08/2016

» I served in the UK armed forces for 20 years, three of them in Northern Ireland under a severe terrorist threat. Security was as tight as it could be. The UK experienced terrorism for 30 years and won because its security forces learned they had to be utterly professional.

    Question of balance

    News, Postbag, Published on 08/08/2016

» It appears the Bangkok Post belongs to the mainstream media of this world and only prints articles from Associated Press, The New York Times, etc (especially from Paul Krugman), but never prints articles from opposing sides.

    Casting a wide net

    News, Postbag, Published on 09/07/2016

» Last year, roughly one in every six fish sold around the world was caught illegally. That number is now poised to drop, thanks to the Port State Measures Agreement (PSMA), the world's first international treaty designed to tackle illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing.
