The wonder of Oz at Thong Lor Art Space

Life, Parisa Pichitmarn, Published on 11/08/2016

» Everybody knows about Dorothy Gale and her adventures in Oz, but L. Frank Baum also has a bevy of other characters just as endearing and unique as the little girl who got tornadoed into the magical land away from her home in Kansas. If you've never heard of Tik-Tok before, Thong Lor Art Space offers you the chance to get up real close to what is possibly the world's first robot character portrayed in literature in The Adventures Of Tik-Tok, Man Of Oz this month. The first half will recount the adventures of the Wizard of Oz and Dorothy, before heading towards the land of Ev, where the "mechanical man" who was forgotten in a cave is later found by Dorothy.

» One of the most anticipated fashion gatherings of the year is about to be smaller than ever. This year, Fashion Fieldtrip, which features shows by Bangkok's cultishly followed brands, including Asava, Issue and Vickteerut, will be welcoming only 150 spectators. This is a stark difference to the guest list that reached four digits in the past. Whether Fashion Fieldtrip is returning to its roots or is just finding an excuse to downsize in the face of an economic downturn has yet to be seen with how well the shows turn out on Sept 17 at Bangkok City City Gallery. Still, with this relatively new space at Sathon playing host to a handful of highly buzzed and hot exhibitions and events in the past few months, it is in good taste that the three founders of the club decided to hold their fashion/art exhibition inside this popular white box.

The local superbrand won't be hosting a fashion show this fall -- they've opted instead to introduce their new collection in an exhibition that's nothing short of stunning.

» There's something simple, but exceedingly special about Tawjan Catherine Punyasingh's recently released cookbook Great Food Good Fest. A quick skim through would evoke the same reflex of going "awww" at dog pictures, except there are squid and salted egg lava buns in these pictures, instead. Something about it just warms your heart and fills you with a pressing urge to get up to make these dishes, even if you are the type that couldn't cook to save yourself. Perhaps it is the book's realistic nature, and as we meet at her home, she whips up a strawberry hazelnut chocolate tart and pumpkin and corn croquette for us -- something even the most hopeless can make this holiday season.

Here are some recent releases by the big fashion houses that bring sheen and glamour to any table they sit on.
