    Thai Marriage Laws

By Anonymous, Created on: 18/05/2007, Last updated on: 11/08/2010

» I am trying to understand why Westerners living and married to Thai nationals are denied permanent residency status once they are legally married in the kingdom. In the west a Thai national receives residency once they are officially married to a western citizen. Procedures are followed and intensive...

    • patrickoniam commented : a they have the money and the political connections etc however i am a dark skin thai aswell but have not come accross any discrimination back home at all i get treated well anywhere i go in thailand

    • Aussie John commented : the kingdom between not only political groups but cultural groups. The wealthiest group are of Chinese origin and yes are hard working, industrious and good at business that is why they were given the opportunity to become full citizens all those years ago. Yet they also have centralised that power and wealth in the capital working alongside indigenous elites to creat the social environment you have today. They have the best schools and universities, while rural provinces have had little infrastructure. They have the strongest representation in government which benifits their friends and families. Is this a fair democracy.? This has caused much division. My wife and all her family acknowledge this. They for some reason accept what they know they can not achieve due to the way they are indirectly treated. Yes they are all Thai but treated different. You know this and I dont need to keep emphasising it. If there were true equality and no double standards you would not be experiencing what is presently happening. A true democracy is made by the people for the people not just for one small group who for so long have controlled not only the economy but many of the instituitons in Thailand. Thailand does need social and educational reform. Saying one cultural group is intellectually inept due to their lack of education is a farce as they havent being given equal resources. I have been to schools in both Isaan and Bangkok. I see the differences. They do to and now they are asking for real change. I have Chinese Thai freinds who when I told them I would marry someone from Isaan informed me I would have stupid children with dark skin. I have never thought in this way yet many in that cultural group do discriminate in this way. Even the Thai media portays this cultural group in a negative way. If they had the resources and education their own provinces would prosper. This is how democracies in western countries work not perfectly as you keep reminding me but better. I would love to live in Thailand because I cherish the real Buddhist culture, one that upholds ethics and morals and treats all people equally. yet it is not this way at present. No one looks down on my wife in Australia except those Bangkok Thais she has to work with. I tell her not to worry as in Australia she can be whoever she wants no matter her cultural background. She is given the opportuntiy and resources, that is what matters to her. She has never been a bar girl but yet many Thai in Australia assume she is. This is discrimination and I will stand up for her and her family if they are treated this way. So Yasoboy you look into your heart and then tell me all Thais are equal no matter their cultural background and if you tell me they are I will not believe you as I am not a stupid farang who doesnt understand Thai culture. I live with it eveyday it is part of me now.

    Trend of economy in Thailand

By Anonymous, Created on: 29/08/2007, Last updated on: 19/05/2012

» Economy is to exchange currency or things depend on the agreement of conditions. Economy growth will depend on its factor. In my opinion, trend of economy in Thailand in the last half year may to expand. I have three reasons for supporting my idea. First, businessmen have more trust for investing...

    • Rooster2012 commented : simply economic monopoly and political influences by people who are controlling businesses including financial sectors. The real capitalism and enterpreneurship do not exist in Thailand including true governmental regulations. It is a common Thai phase of "those who brought don't sell, and those who sell didn't buy." One good example of this corrupt system is the Thai lotto where the retail value of each lotto ticket does not reflex the value printed on the lotto ticket. The lotto sellers did not purchase these lotto tickets directly from the government lotto office, but they are buying them from those who have lotto quota from the lotto office. There are resistances from various urbanites who controlled these monopoly systems operated by civil servants and government bureaucrats, or a Thai word called "Maha-nachan" or great eaters/consumers who received special treatments from government insiders. Any persons like Thai-expat and foreign investors who knew about these monopolitic and corruptive systems in Thailand, they will hesistate to invest in Thailand with the current political situations. The political crimate now is not suitable to real business and long term investments. The good-old-boys and families who are controlling the shares with big multinational companies will still have their meals, but any real new SME will get ahead without having the "mahanachan" and connections with these good-old-boy networks. How can Thailand gain confidence of Thai-expat and foreign investors back? Simple, Thailand will have to show the world that the real democratic processes exist and that the rules and regulations are modern and fair including open and transparent. What have been parading around since the 2006 coup de'tat until now...are simply mirage of lies and deceits under the cover of democracy and etc.. The grassroot people are the most to experience the suffering and hardship while the hi-so urbanites and their allies continue to ride the economic waves like their like-minders in Burma, Iran, PRC, and elsewheres.

    Nuclear Power for Thailand

By Anonymous, Created on: 04/09/2007, Last updated on: 09/07/2014

» The Prime Minister has explained the plan for a nuclear power plant to produce energy for Thailand and help Thailand move away from reliance on oil and gas. Thailand is a net importer of energy, getting much of its energy from the middle east at a huge cost to the country. Added to that the use of...

    • Arthur_Ide commented : s. Added to that - in a world political situation that is becoming more unstable and a world environment that is becoming more unstable - why would we want a nuclear power plant anywhere near us? Hmmm, what can we do to stop this silly idea???? Clearly the better answers are: Use less energy. Use energy more efficiently Use renewable energy sources such as solar, wind, thermal, tidal, etc.[/quote:389ev6z0] It is absurd to continue to use massive amounts of energy when 50 years ago the energy consumption was less than 5% of what it is today. Nuclear is not the answer. Look at what happened in Japan. Nuclear plants are unsafe. Turn to renewable energy sources, such as solar, wind, and water.

    • apee705 commented : y of the world economic & political order that some powerful countries try to confine modern tech & scientific implication within its wall & atomic energy is one of them, there is a dualism in western policy makers attitude regarding it. Every country should be freed to use atomic power for constructive purpose & to combat energy crisis.

    advice for a naive women

By Anonymous, Created on: 16/12/2007, Last updated on: 03/01/2008

» Hi, Can anyone help me or give me some advice please. Just recently my mother–in-law has visited her brother-in-law in Pattaya, and met a Thai man. The thing is she has just lost her husband of 30 years 4 months ago. She told us that she really likes him as he made her feel really special,...

    • Anonymous commented : be ignorant. In today's political correctness, western women seemed to enjoy labeling and putting down men by labeling them while they are talking about men freely. You do not find men trying to label women as female chauvinists. In any cases, chauvinism is seemed as purely male. This western notion of chauvinism are being promoted here in Thailand also with significant corrupted western cultural influences; good influences seemed to untransmittable world wide for some reasons due to mostly profits. As I said before, Thai men have been getting the bad wraps from the faitures of our leaders and bad foreign agendas...indigenous Thais are getting bad wraps too. They are leisurely being labeled with names for profits and for advantages of others. We are third class citizens in our own land. Our young women are being catering as prostitutes, servants, export commodity, and etc.. In foreign countries in EU or North America, Asian prostitutes are portraying themselves as being Thais including in the internet. It destroying our social and cultural integrities. With muslims, chineses, and etc. wanting to make their own dominations over the expenses over our backs. As you saw and see in this past election, it seemed fair and right to label rural Thais and indigenous Thais as vote sellers. If I have my ways and resources, I wish to take all these Bangkok urbanites and politicians to court for slandering and etc..
