Have no fear of missing out on Malevolent

Life, Tatat Bunnag, Published on 20/11/2020

» With the impact of the coronavirus on the global film industry causing cinemas around the world, including Thailand, to struggle with a lack of big releases, it's understandable that the number of movies showing in theatres nowadays aren't as diverse as usual. And without new blockbuster films to show, we've seen many cinemas rerun old movies in the past few months, whether it's Hong Kong action/drama classic A Moment Of Romance (1990), Christopher Nolan's sci-fi epic Inception (2010), Korean zombie movie Train To Busan (2016), or action hit starring Keanu Reeves John Wick Chapter 3 (2019).

    The Lovebirds glides along

Life, Tatat Bunnag, Published on 05/06/2020

» I discovered both director Michael Showalter and actor Kumail Nanjiani for the first time back in 2017 at the press screening for a romcom I then knew very little about called The Big Sick. And with its indie-ish charm, Nanjiani's witty performances, clever jokes about romance and cultural identity, The Big Sick turned out to be one of the movies I most remember from that same year. So I was really excited to hear they teamed up once again in the new comedy The Lovebirds, which is now streaming on Netflix. And although the new film is an entirely different beast and may not be as good as its predecessor, The Lovebirds still manages to deliver a semi-good laugh, and a heartwarming love story.

    Playing it cool

» When it comes to sports, skiing and skating are the last activities anyone associates with Southeast Asia. Outside of a few indoor skating rinks in big cities, the only ice you'll find is in drinks. And as for snow, it's non-existent except at the highest reaches of remote and forbidding Hkakabo Razi in northern Myanmar.

    Contemporary mission

    Life, Published on 10/04/2018

» A few months prior to its 10th anniversary, the Bangkok Art and Culture Centre (BACC) made a major announcement: a new director. As of March 1, Pawit Mahasarinand has taken the helm of the city's main art venue and the largest public-funded art centre in the country, a surprising choice to many, though an entirely welcoming one.

Faces of the new language of leadership

» The nature of humans is to act upon certain situations based on our experiences. It's only natural for us to do so, simply because it is easy, and in any case we can't just get rid of what we have previously known.

    Made in Thailand

    Guru, Published on 05/07/2019

» To say that Thailand has been getting global recognition lately may be a bit of an understatement. After all, it's not a secret that it's a famous tourist destination with plenty of beautiful beaches and street food that's been topping lists for years now. Of course, these are only just a few things Thailand is well-known for but we don't really have the time to get into all of that (*cough* rigged election *cough*). However, people from the outside may have a narrow view of what Thailand and its culture really is, but fortunately, there are things that help put a spotlight on these things. The next instalment of the Fast and Furious franchise is filming right now in parts of Thailand, including Krabi where its governor stated that the film would be a "great advertisement for the nature, culture and history of the kingdom". Erm sure, that's what the Fast and Furious franchise is all about anyway. While the film will most likely be more about cars zoom-zooming and vroom-vrooming, there are a number of shows on TV that give a better focus on Thai culture. Here are a few.

» Yosuke Chatmaleerat is a number of different things. He's a gymnast, pianist and pilot — three things which require a lot of dedication, practice and skill. He's skilled in all three at just 27 years old and if that doesn't make you question what you've been doing in your life, he's recently just got another achievement under his belt. Well, it's more of a record. He now holds the Guinness World Record for the fastest journey through all 48 mainland states of the US by helicopter.
