» There is a brand new trend in the village I stay up here near Chaiyaphum. Young people strip their motorbikes of everything “you don’t really need” like; lights, protections, exhaust pipes, silencers, mirrors and so on and then go on the streets an “do the monkey” on their bikes, specially...

    • pachangamac042 commented : Hello Sean Moran, I was finally able to take a picture of one of this trendy bikes, which I would like to show you. The problem is, where to post it? Any suggestion? To villager, regarding accident statistics, not that I have ever see one, I still think that somehow, traffic and their way of driving seems to work not to bad for locals. Seeing them driving, I would expect much more accidents on the streets here. To Doc, I know what you mean, just the day before yesterday, coming back from Farang Thani, or Udon as it is known to locals, I saw a huge crowd ahead standing next to the road. Getting closer I realized that an accident had happened. A pick up truck must have knocked down a biker. The biker was still laying on the street, covered with a blanket and obviously death. Seemed like a big attraction for the locals, to see the shocked relatives and friends standing close to the accident. I thought it was a bit disturbing, but I may just be a softy.

    • villager commented : Yeah Doc , i agree to a certain limit , but i truly think for acts of sheer lunacy Thailand is far and away well on top of the heap, and any country in Europe is far far safer , just two of many acts of madness, the police who are on traffic duty at our nearby school do not bat an eyelid when 3 ten year old kids on an Honda 125 rip round the blind right bend which is the school entrance on the WRONG SIDE OF THE ROAD!!,this is an everyday occurrence i might add, then there is Songkran , oh yeah Songkran!!, were gangs of drunken morons stand roadside to throw the leavings of a buffalo wallow and stinging balsamic powder directly into the face of an oncoming motorcyclist or a drivers windscreen whilst the police look on and laugh.2 years ago i took a friend of mine to SURIN hospital DURING SONGKRAN for a check up , the accident and emergency room looked like a slaughter house , i found out later that they had run out of blood for transfusions!.

Dumb motorbike riders they are. Luckily dead men tell no tales, so it's always the motorbike riders fault whenever they get hit by a car and knocked into the back of a parked truck while the car just drives off on its merry way into the distance.

Why do ONLY foreigners get special promotion?

By Anonymous, Created on: 28/01/2008, Last updated on: 05/02/2014

» The advertising board on the way to Airport is shown "Foreigner Zone.. Buying house (somewhere around Bangkok..) Foreigner, with Special Price!!" I know the property company may want to attract foreigners to invest in property in Thailand. But, what about Thais who also want to own the...

    • Billy Baht commented : I disagree with with the OP with respect to "Special Promotions" that foreigners receive in Thailand. We, foreigners, can not own land in Thailand, are charged 10 times the Thai price for admission to National Parks, Grand Palace, etc. and usually are the loser/at fault party in any traffic accident or disagreement with a Thai citizen. Maybe the "Special Treatment" we receive is exploitation and mistreatment?
