It don't mean a thing if it ain't got that bling

Life, Parisa Pichitmarn, Published on 29/10/2015

» 'More, more, more!" What else could you expect the feistiest hotshot designer of the moment to say, in reference to the bling that goes on the clothes he designs? If Balmain creative director Olivier Rousteing could have it all his way, the brand's collaboration collection with H&M would see "really, really high heels", shorter skirts and a lot more golden buttons. But thanks to the balance that H&M insists on, for universal appeal's sake, wearability is ensured, especially for us low-key folk who don't usually make it out alive on the high-fashion horse.

    Turning over a new leaf

Life, Parisa Pichitmarn, Published on 24/07/2015

» Ironically, one of the oldest German tea traders feels more at home opening up their very first tea lounge in Thailand than they would in their motherland. Still, they wouldn't be the first to do so, as Twinings and Whittard of Chelsea are among other European tea powerhouses that chose Bangkok as their choice of destination.

    From Amsterdam to Amsterdenim

Life, Parisa Pichitmarn, Published on 04/06/2015

» Known as the denim Mecca of the world, today heads turn to Japan for the finest and most premium jeans man can produce. Italy runs a pretty close second, being home to some of the best fabric mills, as well as having a long heritage of vintage looks. Mention this textile and America too comes to mind, for being the nation that has globally popularised jeans, ensuring the product transcended its original functional purpose of being worn by labourers in the mines. But for those outside of the denim loop, it is hard to envision how the Netherlands, a country anything but fashion-forward, could be seen as the new centrepoint for denim, both commercial and niche.

    Gentlemen only

Life, Parisa Pichitmarn, Published on 16/04/2015

» Looking for that ultimate piece of swimwear that's built to last but can't seem to find any? While racks and racks of bikinis and women's swimwear have flooded the market, it seems to be the opposite for men. Gents are just not as spoiled for choice when it comes to resort wear, but, with Vilebrequin's first flagship store having recently opened at EmQuartier, that's all about to change.

    Suited for fashion

» Adrian Costanzo may be Australian by birth, but Italian roots run thick in his blood — or in this case, thread. It comes as no surprise that the elegantly dressed 31-year-old has made his own clothes since the age of eight.

    Spring into summer

Life, Parisa Pichitmarn, Published on 29/03/2013

» During this time of the year, Western countries are revelling in the first air of spring. In Thailand, the looming Thai New Year season edges closer and could more or less call for new changes, too. Spring cleaning is no fun, but revamps may have you feeling otherwise. With new plants shooting up and well wishes blessed by the elders, this season symbolises a new start that we can physically materialise by giving a new look to our surroundings. A whole furniture overhaul can be costly, so we suggest another alternative to achieving transformation: change your walls.

    The Bangkok tea party

Life, Parisa Pichitmarn, Published on 26/04/2013

» Just like bell-bottoms morphing into boot-cut and eventually skinny jeans, the way people enjoy their cuppa also changes over time. Sipping tea from porcelain cups with pinkies raised may not be a common sight in Thailand just yet, but tea-drinking is very much a part of our everyday life whether we realise it or not. The availability of tea is more relevant when it is staring at us through a plastic bottle, usually with a brightly cluttered tag, or in a tea bag that we mindlessly dunk into hot water. In other words, it is produced for the masses with nothing personal or delicate at all. The recently opened tea salons around town, however, are looking to stimulate the fine culture and experience of tea time: scones, timers and all.

    The fuss about Furbies

Life, Parisa Pichitmarn, Published on 18/02/2013

» The hysterical longings _ and a whiff of hatred _ circling the air for the newest generation of Furbies in Thailand is so palpable, it hits you in the face like a purple, fuzzy brick. The hit owlish toy with the iconic googly eyes and a chatterbox nature that can interact with the owner _ personally or through mobile apps _ was first introduced in the US in 1998 and sold over 40 million units within three years, instantly becoming a sensation so sweeping you might have had to send your child to Pluto in order to avoid it.
