    Songkran summertime

Guru, Eric E Surbano, Published on 09/04/2021

» Summer is here and Songkran is around the corner so get your water guns ready because Bangkok is about to become an all-out water war zone! Wait, no water battles? For two consecutive years? Sadly, Songkran hasn't been the same since Rona came around and it seems like we have to wait yet another year to -- hopefully -- celebrate Songkran in the wet and wild way we're familiar with. But that doesn't mean your summer has to be a bummer or that Songkran has to be spent cooped up at home -- though we know it's certainly tempting since it's getting too dang hot outside. Here are some things you can do this Songkran summertime besides being sad that water fights aren't a thing again this year.

Guru, Eric E Surbano, Published on 20/11/2020

» If you haven't noticed, there's only a little over a month left for 2020 to end. This also means cooler weather all over the country and along with that comes a slew of festivals making good use of the cool breeze that makes walking outside more delightful and less of a workout. A number of these events take place outside the city, which means even cooler temperatures and breezes accompanied by fantastic views of nature. These events are a great way to enjoy the "winter season" and serve as a reminder that we've made it through 2020 so we've all earned ourselves a bit of time to enjoy what these festivals have to offer.

    Super brother

Guru, Eric E Surbano, Published on 02/10/2020

» The name Sherlock Holmes is synonymous to being eccentric, weird and a genius that no one can match. Aside from the original novels, there have been many versions of the famous detective. However, in Enola Holmes, he plays a supporting character and tries to help his sister, Enola, make her way in a world that's trying to dictate who she wants to be. And who better to fill the shoes of the detective this time around than the dashing Henry Cavill? Guru spoke to Cavill about his portrayal of Sherlock Holmes and working with Millie Bobby Brown.

» It's a sad twist of fate that as quarantine restrictions have lifted, the rainy season is upon us. There may be many who want to get out and about, perhaps even the introverts like me may want just a tiny bit of socialising. But don't let the rain dampen your mood. » Big games from well-known developers are great but there are other games that may sometimes be obscured by the looming shadows these games cast. Titles from indie developers or smaller yet fun games may pass the radar of most gamers, which is why we're putting the spotlight on these two titles this month: Dreams Universe from Media Molecule who's also responsible for the "LittleBigPlanet" series and Patapon 2 Remastered, a title originally made for the PlayStation Portable, which is now available for the PS4.

    From Italy with love

Guru, Eric E Surbano, Published on 07/02/2020

» It seems a little odd when you first glimpse the exterior of the resto because you would think it was a legit Italian osteria found on the side of a cobbled road. But then you take a look around and realise you're in CentralWorld. Walking in, the resto does a great job of making you feel as if you are in Italy. While they do sell pizzas and other things to go at the entrance, going inside for a proper meal is where it's at because not only does the ambience transport you but so does the food.

    What's in a face?

Guru, Eric E Surbano, Published on 30/08/2019

» Hom Nguyen has had quite a journey to be where he's at. Arguably, he would have entered the art scene much earlier if not for life and responsibilities hindering him (adulting is hard, folks). But one pivotal and rather painful event catapulted him into it and the rest is history. Now, after having famous and iconic people as subjects of his tantalising and intriguing portraits, as well as having held exhibitions in many parts of Europe and Asia, the French artist brings his art to the Big Mango at the Galerie Adler with an exhibition titled "Racines", curated by Laurent Macaluso. Guru chatted with Nugyen about his journey, art and exhibition in Bangkok.
