Life, Pongpet Mekloy, Published on 10/05/2012

» Once upon a time in a town called Mahabalipuram, a group of royally-commissioned sculptors were working on a big boulder at the foot of a hill. As they were meticulously chiselling out one tiny bit after another from the rock surface, Lord Shiva, with a cobra around his chest and a trident in one of his hands, gradually appeared.

    Supporting the coup, boycotting brands

Life, Pongpet Mekloy, Published on 26/06/2014

» It wasn’t long enough ago that I could have forgotten. For half-a-year before the coup, so many Thais, the number reaching millions on certain days, left the comfort of their homes and took to Bangkok’s streets in peaceful protests against the highly corrupted previous government. Almost on a daily basis, they were attacked by armed men. Dozens had been killed, children included, while many more were injured and have to live the rest of their lives with physical disabilities. The police never arrested any of the murderers. At the time, the United States and the European Union never showed any concern. Understandably, it was purely Thailand’s internal affairs and none of their business.

The photos you see on this page show some of the many beautiful houses in Phrae's old town. But, of course, there is more than meets the eye. Back to the basics

Life, Pongpet Mekloy, Published on 02/01/2020

» On the breezy top of the limestone cliff on the east side of Doi Pha Phueng, 1,600m above sea level, I zipped up my jacket and let the sights and sounds of the natural surroundings soak in. Before me was a sea of forest-clad mountains, bathed in the warm rays of the morning Sun. The air was filled with blissful silence, with faint songs from invisible birds occasionally seeping in from the canopy below.

Life, Pongpet Mekloy, Published on 10/09/2020

» Entering the main hall of Chiang Saen National Museum in its namesake border town 64km or so northeast of Chiang Rai downtown, I was greeted by three beautiful seated Buddha images from the 16th century. Each had a pretty chubby body and a round face with a prominent chin and a closed-lips smile, typical of Chiang Saen, aka Lanna, style.
