Life, Pongpet Mekloy, Published on 09/08/2018

» It has been quite a while since the last time I visited Sai Thong. Recently, as I noticed that certain photographs have been used in the Bangkok Post too often, I knew it's time to return to this national park of Chaiyaphum province once again.

» Unless you have shut yourself from all news, you must be aware that it's wise to avoid visiting certain caves or venturing off the Andaman coast during the monsoon season. However, at several destinations in Thailand, this is the period when the beauty of nature reaches its peak, thus in some ways the best time to be there. Phu Soi Dao is one such place.

Like a bat out of hell

Life, Pongpet Mekloy, Published on 04/02/2016

An ocean at the top of the world

Life, Pongpet Mekloy, Published on 18/07/2019

» The wooden sign at the highest point of Phu Ta Jo claims that the mountain rises 1,300m above sea level. According to my topographic map, and judging by the vegetation, the elevation was actually more like 800-900m. But that didn't really matter, I was still on top of the world.

    Undisturbed by time

Life, Pongpet Mekloy, Published on 20/06/2019

Along the northern coast of the prefecture, referred to by some as "Kyoto By The Sea" nestled interesting places not much known among non-Japanese travellers. The fishing village of Ine, with its unique and well-preserved architecture, interested me most. It was the major purpose of my latest visit to the Land of the Rising Sun.

    The Pride of Phayao

Life, Pongpet Mekloy, Published on 28/03/2019

» First-time visitors to the northern province of Phayao should be sure to check out the provincial town and, in particular, the famous namesake lake on which it stands. For repeat visitors, however, I suggest exploring the northeastern part of the province, which is made up of Chiang Kham, Phu Sang and Pong districts. Unless, you have plenty of time to spend , don't bother going back to the lake.
