    Wearing your fitness gains

Life, Kanin Srimaneekulroj, Published on 19/08/2015

» Fitness trackers are the new smartphones these days, with various tech companies seemingly scrambling over each other to release the dominant fitness wearable. The UP3, called the "most advanced way to track your fitness, sleep and heart health" by creator Jawbone, certainly has all the specs you'd expect from a fitness wearable, though whether that supports Jawbone's lofty claims for its flagship device is doubtful at best.

Pales in comparison to the original

» The original The Transporter series will always have a place in my heart as one of the most entertaining action flicks of all time. Jason Statham's portrayal of the mysterious Frank Martin appealed to me with his deadpan humour and silent, threatening stares, not to mention his borderline mythic skills with the wheel.

» You could almost smell the collective excitement and youthful energy emanating from the nearly 20,000 gathered at Sunway Lagoon, the water park and resort (and shopping mall, university, etc.) -- the site of this year's MTV World Stage concert, which took place in Kuala Lumpur last Saturday.

» James Abbot left his office life in 2004 and hasn't looked back since. During his travels to other countries while working on his own projects, the Brit came across a co-working space called Hubud in Bali and was immediately touched by the energy and innovative passion that came from the like-minded travelling freelancers working within the shared space. Finding himself in Thailand later, the experience prompted Abbot to found KoHub, a co-working space located right by the picturesque ocean at Koh Lanta, Krabi.

    A spiritual wasteland

» Recently, a friend of mine visited a temple to pay respects to his long-departed mother. As is the tradition with these yearly visits, he and his father sat down for lunch with a group of monks to discuss current events and religious teachings. The last thing he expected was to be talking about how Thai Buddhism is under siege by the fast-growing Muslim population, and how steps need to be taken to contain them.

    Perfectly impractical

» When it comes to smartphones, Sony is hardly considered among the "big boys" of the industry like Samsung or Apple. Approaching Sony's latest flagship smartphone, the Xperia Z5 Premium, I was sceptical at first. While the newest model in Sony's Xperia line proves to be a huge step in the right direction -- with an impressive 23MP back camera, 5.5-inch 4K resolution display and even workable water, plus fall-proof technology -- there are still plenty of caveats to the device that holds it back from standing toe-to-toe with the likes of Samsung's Galaxy S line or Apple's iPhones, despite the similar price tag.

» 1 In celebration of the Thai New Year, W Bangkok is holding Songkran Splash Away Pool Party on April 13. Held in collaboration with local party collective Kolour, the event will also feature a host of DJs both local and international, who will be laying down the party beats. Tickets cost 900 baht, but early-birds can pick them up for a discounted 700 baht. Arrive before 3pm and you'll even get two complimentary drinks with your tickets. Considering the country's current water-shortage problems, a pool party is probably the most responsible way to get yourselves doused this Songkran anyway.

    A new age

Life, Kanin Srimaneekulroj, Published on 19/04/2016

» As people spend less time with TV and radio programmes, businesses and advertisers must adapt accordingly. As is evinced by smothering banner ads and viral videos, digital and social-media marketing are on the rise. In a day and age when almost every consumer has a smartphone in their hands, perpetually connected to the Internet's wealth of content, online advertising is no longer a gimmick or an alternative. It's the future.
