Anonymous commented : This type of example by the upper class is portrayed as upward mobility whether it is true or not...i.e. having bastards by foreigners are better having them with Thai men. Since these children are view as better in appearances like lighter skin tone. Regarding to Thai education policy, the education system is discriminating against rural and poor Thais. The education system itself is discriminating againt Thai men and always by age discrimination. The system is rigged to serve women, urbanites, and foreigners. The testing system is imported from foreign culture which is designed to select people from their classes. These tests are not for testing male's masculine brains...left or right sides of the human brain. These resulting in vast majority of Thai women bring educated over Thai men. As a result, most Thai teachers and those running Thai education system are women who are quiet comfortable with the current system. Oh, we should take a took at Japan - how Japan modernized their education system? - during the advance of Western Imperialism era. Many foreign educated Thai men left to Thailand for high education for various reasons...one of this reason is admission process. Rich families are able to send their children abroad, and poor families ended up without education. If you think carefully, how can anyone determine a person potential by giving them written examinations. It is so backward; it is the same season for the decline of confucianism. Recently, I have been conducting my own experiment by testing my hypothesis from the know statistic. As from my previous posting, the computer usages by Thai female to male ratio is 2:1. This is due to different factors beside education. Computer is a easiest way for Thai women to reach out to the world or to foreign men. To make this short, I tested 4 websites with Thai women posting their pictures and profiles looking for friendships. I got all positive hits or good invitions when I portraying myself as foreign men, and negative reception as Thai man. All of these women or girls are looking for foreign men with only few of them having any knowledge of these countries and people. I only found one exception girl who is looking for Thai man; she is a 21 years old Thai-Chinese girl. I tested the women and girls in the age group between 16 to 30 years old. I have more than one women telling me that they hated Thai men. Of course, I did not ask them why...tried not to review myself to them. I think that it is very sad...Thai culture and Thai men is in decline and an endangered specie. We are bring breed out of our land by foreigners with the help from our women. What do Thai men have to hope for in their women?

Anonymous commented : f your marrying a girl from a upper middle class to upper class family. The dowry shows your social statis and that you can afford to take care of her. If she married a Thai, he would have to pay the same and it is a lot more money when earned in thai baht. My suggestion to you is save your money and pay the dowry if you really love her. If you can't afford it, don't make yourself look cheap and of low social statis by trying to get out of paying the dowry. If you are from the West , they expect you to be rich enough to pay the dowry (which is shown to all family members during your wedding ceremony) . The family is suppose to use some of it for wedding expence, give your wife some cash (in case you leave her) so that she have some reserve money, and give some back to you. My wife got 10K, I got 10K, our wedding cost about 10K and they kept the rest (reimburtment for raising her and putting her through university).... Now do you see why a dowery is paid? I wish you good luck with your marriage if you decide to go through with it.

Anonymous commented : a big scandal for middle and upper class men to marry these women in Thailand. Bangkok and some parts of Thailand have different groups of foreign cultural practices. In the Muslim communities, Mulism men could have up to four wives each time. In the Chinese communities, it is common for them to have minor wives. In Thai traditional culture, rich men could have as many wives as they could afford and to treat them equally under the same roof. In the modern day, gumbo culture resulting from Western and other foreign cultures. Therefore, urban people seemed to do whatever are conveniences to them. This is possible because Thailand lacks of child support enforcement and social welfare for children and single mother, so that the Casanovas have more freedom to console to any women as they could.... My sister is a victom of Western Casanova. My cousins are victoms of common local Casanovas. One of my cousin died of AIDS and left a daughter with HIV for my uncle. The Casanova with HIV took off with another girl...who knew where? In most of these cases, traditional values and culture were not followed which resulted in disaster future for the girls.

Anonymous commented : Sydney we passed through the upper Hunter Valley, where many of our coal-powered electricity stations are based. Now I'm no scientist but it suddenly occurred to me that surely we could install massive numbers (like hundreds of thousands) of solar panels on these very large buildings, and connect these TO THE EXISTING power transmission infrastructure. The beauty of this solution would be that no planning permission battles would need to be fought, no additional power transmission facility would be needed, and no additional negative environmental impact need be inflicted on the local environment. Now up in the Hunter the political considerations are very delicate and our politiicians are loathe to upset the status quo. Yet such a solution could be used to AUGMENT existing power generation facilities, so that over time we can develop a strategy to moving us away from fossil fuels, without having to fire a lot of miners overnight. We must move now - inertia is not an option, and countries like Australia (and Thailand for that matter) are well-placed to take advantage of the blessing of their environments to get the ball rolling. Let's act now!! Kind regards David

Anonymous commented : a custom among middle-to-upper class Chinese-Thais, at their weddings. But this is purely a ritual - the gold is promplty returned to the newly-weds, as they're going to need it !! Perhaps very upper-class Thais have some sort of gold betrothal customs, such as the one you speak of. But you yourself would have to come from an extremely high Western family to even spend five minutes with their daughters. It sounds very much as if you are being set up - in customary fashiion !! If anything, your wife's family should be paying you ! After all - if she marries you, then emigrates, she sends money back to them : way beyond anything they could otherwise possibly earn.

Anonymous commented : If you are marrying middle to upper class Thai women, you will end up having to deal with their families too. Since most of these women will live with their families and having someone elses doing their household chores for them for most of their lives. There are lot of rural educated Thai women. These women are more traditional and family oriented than urbanite Thai women.

Anonymous commented : in mind in terms of middle to upper class thai ladies. In fact the diversity between lifestyles, background, status, family upbringing is too wide to make definitive statement about us women and our families (by that I mean stereotyping). Being a Thai women myself, I'm quite bewildered, that we are such a topic for discussion.
