News, Atiya Achakulwisut, Published on 22/01/2019

» How far will almost five tonnes of sticky rice and mango go in assuring Chinese tourists that it's now safe to travel to Thailand and that one of the country's top ministers has adopted a more respectful attitude towards them?

    A taxing argument

    News, Postbag, Published on 24/03/2019

» A reader in his March 23 letter makes a fair comment on two-tiered pricing for foreigners. But he then goes on to quantify the government's policy of a two-tiered charging system by saying that some farang do not pay taxes. I would dispute this. I am assuming by "some farang" he means tourists, as all foreigners living and working here pay tax in one form or another.

    Dark enough for you?

Asia focus, Erich Parpart, Published on 20/08/2018

» 'Dark tourism" is an interesting concept that did not come to my attention until I watched a Netflix series recently. Few countries actively promote offbeat or slightly dangerous pursuits but it's a niche with potential, if managed carefully -- even if it's hard to explain to your insurer.

This changed recently when the hashtag #BanTravelToSouthKorea began trending on X, with netizens accusing the country of discriminating against Thai tourists. Everyone from the average tourist to influencers joined the debate and shared stories of being interrogated and/or refused entry into South Korea despite having all the right paperwork.

    Inspirations for travel

    Pattarawadee Saengmanee, Published on 21/08/2023

» When I visited Ayutthaya Historical Park last week, I noticed some tourists posing for photos among the ruined temples while wearing classic period attire. My companions and I started to perspire under the brilliant blue sky and soaring temperatures, but they carried on happily exploring various places to take in the nostalgic atmosphere. I could not help but admire how eager they were to enjoy their vacation.
