    Celebrating the art of watchmaking

Life, Pamela Tan, Published on 06/09/2013

ยป In 1970, the late British master watchmaker George Daniels introduced the first practical new watch escapement to be invented in some 250 years, but his plan to make this co-axial escapement was turned down by every watch brand he met. Almost 30 years later, visionary entrepreneur Nicolas G. Hayak understood the significance of the invention and chose to invest heavily in it, and in 1999, the first Omega co-axial escapement was launched. The co-axial escapement was a vast improvement on the Swiss lever escapement and addressed the problems of lubrication that had perplexed watchmakers for centuries. It features an intermediary wheel, a double co-axial wheel, an escapement wheel and its components.
