Life in the grand palace
Life, Published on 03/01/2012
» A dazzle of gold and a blaze of colours _ that's your first impression of the Grand Palace as you come down the avenue of ugly dull buildings. It is a splendid mass of pagodas, towers, halls and chapels with triple roofs ending in flourishes of serpents' tails. The temple bells glint from the eaves below roofs covered with blue and orange, green and yellow tiles. The buildings look like blown up toys. The black spires seem remote and unreal as fairy tales and dreams. High white walls surround the city for it is indeed a little city of its own.

B Magazine, Published on 29/01/2012
» If they had known they would one day become online sensations, twin sisters Janice and Sonia Lee might have combed their hair before recording their first YouTube video in their bedroom. Culinary trail leads to cultural awareness
B Magazine, Sanitsuda Ekachai, Published on 29/01/2012
» You don't know Thai food if you think it's just green curry and tom yum gung spicy shrimp soup, and you won't ever know it if you eat only in Bangkok restaurants, no matter how fancy and how varied their menus. For food is culture and Thai cuisine is a living art. It is also a sacred offering because each dish manifests gratitude to Mother Nature for what she has endowed local environments.

Pedal power in the park
Life, Published on 06/02/2012
» The "Cycle-lizing Bangkok Fest" on Feb 25, offers a rare opportunity to cycle in Lumpini Park from 3pm to 8pm. (Bicycles are usually only allowed in the park between 10am and 3pm.) Celebrating the 20th anniversary of Green World Foundation, the event's highlight will be a one-of-a-kind stage show with the lighting generated by human power. Thirty bicycles will be connected to electric generators and 60 cyclists will take turns pedalling to power the lights. There will be performances by Sqweez Animal, Nathapol "Kor" Srijomkwan, Apartment Khunpa, Chulachak "Hugo" Chakrabongse and his cyclist friends. Short films about cycling will be screened and accompanied by live music. Those turning up with a bike can join the "Saturday Night Bike Fever" cycling tour to Chinatown which will take place after the stage performances. To reduce the use of plastic bags and bottles in the festival, participants are encouraged to bring their own tote bag and water bottle. Coming by bicycle or public transportation is also advised.

In the name of love
Guru, Pornchai Sereemongkonpol, Published on 10/02/2012
» Love is indeed a strange and powerful force. It can make us do crazy things like stare at the phone willing our darling to call for the fifth time of the day. It can make us spend a year's salary impressing our khun noo girlfriend with an LV bag despite an unwavering credit card debt. It can drive us to hide in the bushes behind the object of our affection's house, going through their trash in the hope of finding a lock of their hair to use in a love spell.

Off the beaten track
Guru, Pornchai Sereemongkonpol, Published on 17/02/2012
» There are certain must-see attractions for first-time visitors to Thailand: Patpong, Temple of the Emerald Buddha, Khao San Road, an elephant show, ladyboy cabaret, Hua Hin, a Full Moon party, some more beaches... But with all this distraction, visitors might miss out on the atypical attractions your average tour guide doesn't know about. To do our part in promoting the miracle that is Thai tourism, we have selected five lesser-known villages where visitors can discover Thais living in unique ways.
