The resto isn't that huge but what it lacks in size it compensates for with its chill feel. Its industrial decor gives it a ragged elegance with the bar being the centrepiece, which brings the entire quaint place together. No doubt you'll have no trouble settling in and that's great because now it's time to dig in.

    » Mallard, a newish Mediterranean eatery is nestled half-way in the popular food soi that is Sukhumvit 49, attached to the Adelphi Forty-Nine Hotel. Named after the dabbling duck known for its adaptability, the restaurant's philosophy is "what we cook is who we are", with a focus on wild and exotic meats. The interior looks like a country farmhouse, with a patio and terrace seating, complete with potted plants, outdoor fans (to keep the hot summer days cool), animal trophies, antler chandeliers and wood and leather furniture. Warm lighting completes the look, which includes a bar in the centre of the restaurant. A very macho restaurant.

    » Bitterman, on Sala Daeng Soi 1, is a 40-year-old house complete with an atrium, full of plants. The restaurant also has leather chairs and tables inside. But since sitting outside in Bangkok is rare, the glass house is by far the most popular, especially during dinner and at weekends when brunch is served. It is also the best spot to be in the afternoon while the warm sun bathes you through the glass, which makes you forget you're in Bangkok for a wee bit. "Even though the concept of the restaurant is home cooking, I think it's a tad boring so I have changed the way we present the food. The best way to describe my menu is simple and sexy," laughs chef de la cuisine Enzo Dela Cruz.

    It's a party alright

    » The Firm is a few metres down Sukhumvit 33, a short walk from BTS Phrom Phong and at first glance looks like a nightclub. It is a nightclub, but it's also one of the very few restaurants in Bangkok that serve food 24/7. Yes, you read that right: the kitchen doesn't stop and dishes out food around the clock. The first and second floors are dining areas while the third to fifth floors are where you can dance the night away. Most of the time, nightclub-goers fill the dining area before heading home. Don't get us wrong, The Firm isn't just for late night/early morning, post-party people. You can definitely head over for breakfast, lunch or dinner because what they've got to offer is a feast at any time of day or night.

Having recently moved from Langsuan to 31, Calderazzo is Italian with a difference. It has a rather bistro-like feel to it, with plenty of tables for private or romantic dinners. There is also a patio for those who enjoy the occasional breeze Mother Nature allows Bangkok.

    Welcome to the Mancave

    » As evidenced by its name and our headline, the inspiration for Caveman Base's design and concept is a mancave. No, not like the one in a basement that reeks of beer, a certain type of plant meant to be smoked and dirty laundry. Rather, it's the mancave of anyone's dreams: consoles, board games, beer in bottles or tap and an air hockey table. That's the whole concept of the place, but that doesn't mean ladies are forbidden (we're pretty sure there are more than a few females who can dish out a beating in Tekken better than any other dudes). In fact, the look and feel of the place invites everyone to pull up a chair, order some grub and drinks, and get rowdy over boardgames, a game of Mario Kart or maybe a few rounds of beer pong. And that's exactly what patrons of the almost five-month-old establishment have been doing. But aside from the fun and games, Caveman Base's menu caters to adrenaline-pumping appetite acquired after back-stabbing friends at UNO.

    » Blink and you'll miss it! The entrance to Ekamai 16 is rather small, narrow and the street sign is barely visible among Bangkok's iconic wire tangle. But what it leads to is a new restaurant serving good old American fare, complete with craft beers -- The Fat Tap. The casual setting in a townhouse is all wood, which is a step up from owner Matthew Fischer's very popular Fatty's Bar and Diner on Din Daeng. The Fat Tap has the cosy feel of a hip hostel, minus the backpackers, with long wooden benches softened by throw pillows. Classic tracks from yesteryear blast in the background and add more character compared to the other pricey craft beer places found in the area.

    » The Setting: Not only Happy Endings, a new restaurant in Sala Daeng Soi 1, should pique your interest with its double entendre name (intentional or not) but also its contemporary take on Vietnamese cuisine. I climbed a green metal staircase, passing the restaurant's name spelt in handwritten lowercase with neon lights and opened a double-panel door to a casual space. Think bare ceiling with pipes running along it and exposed beams.
