Guru, Mika Apichatsakol, Published on 09/12/2016

» If you've ever sourced any basic kitchenware from Central, you may own something of Scanproducts and not even know it. Established 20 years ago as a premium Danish homeware company in Thailand, Scanproducts has in recent years come out with local brand that is more relatable to this country's middle class homemakers. Delicately Thai

Guru, Mika Apichatsakol, Published on 14/10/2016

» Growing up in Thailand, I was never really fond of our traditional desserts. The combination of coconut and undisguised sugar -- cornerstones of Thai confection -- always hit me like a note too sharp for my bass range of creamy, chocolaty sweets. Why I wanted to give Wanlamun a try, nonetheless, is knowing that it comes from the same patissier behind the short-lived but sensational Let Them Eat Cake, the closure of which we are still crying over.

    Graduation checklist

Guru, Mika Apichatsakol, Published on 02/10/2015

» There's one part of higher education in Thailand we can confidently say is more impressive and challenging than that of any other country -- our graduation ceremonies. It's every Thai parent's dream to see their grown kids suffer through at least two full days -- dress rehearsal and the actual commencement -- of outdoor photo shoots while dressed in elaborate uniforms, plus the gown, props and an inhuman amount of make-up and hairspray. Did I mention that we're in a tropical country where it is pretty much the scorching summer year-round?!

Guru, Mika Apichatsakol, Published on 11/11/2016

» If you're a vinyl diehard in this city, then you probably know of Vinyl Die Hards record store - if not have already busted your bank account there. Located on Srinakarin Soi 44, the shop belongs to 25-year-old Saipin Korpenjawan, who pretty much does everything there, including melting scrap vinyls to save costs on light shades. (True story. Don't forget to look up.) As vinyl enthusiasts ourselves, we were more than thrilled to immerse ourselves in Saipin's world for a good browsing session and chat.

» Gregory Sanzo, 30, isn't the first foreigner to fall madly in love with our national martial arts to the point of moving here and making a career out of it. But he is a rare interesting one with a lot going on when he sets foot outside the famous Petchyindee Muay Thai Academy where he trains. Before becoming a professional fighter, this Houston native was serious about soccer and music, playing bass in a punk hardcore band under the same label as A Day to Remember, Victory Records. A true renaissance man

Guru, Mika Apichatsakol, Published on 13/05/2016

» Passionate about the field of design and educated abroad extensively, Kompit Panasupon never thought he'd wind up back in Bangkok, much less become a key player in his father's serious business of academia. MAC Education, which started off as a tutoring school in the 70s, has become one of the biggest textbook publishers in the country and is understandably a big responsibility. We visited the busy 31-year-old (and his two cats) to talk about his work and views on education, but in the process, unlocked surprising facts that reveal that he never really quit being a man of the arts.
