    Plundered budget

    News, Postbag, Published on 17/05/2019

» Since the start of the coup and Thailand's dictatorial control, the national budget has been plundered by the military. With so many social pressures supposedly causing the need for a coup, the dictator and his underlings have seen it fit to purchase submarines, tanks, military aircraft, and now Stryker armoured vehicles. How do these expenditures truly serve the people?

    EC has no vision

    News, Postbag, Published on 28/03/2019

» A conscientious Election Commission would have counted the 1,500 ballots from New Zealand that arrived at their precincts after ballot counting had begun.True, the law allows for them to not be counted, but a duty-bound, proactive EC would have noted that the ballots' delay was not any fault of the voters, nor had they been tampered with en route.

    'Justice' Thai-style

» Re: "Police ponder legal action in abbot ordeal", (BP, Dec 2). The inability of the DSI to arrest Phra Dhammajayo has descended into farce. In all probability he is no longer ensconced in Wat Phra Dhammakaya, despite what authorities say. With so many of his followers surrounding the temple it would be easy for him to slip away disguised as one of them. Maybe he is not even in Thailand.

    Noisy riders are relevant

    News, Postbag, Published on 07/10/2018

» Re: "Summary execution", (PostBag, Oct 6). Unfortunately, my letter was cruelly edited to the point that it made little sense. In my original, I included photographs in support, and said that although a (very weak) argument could be made for motorcycles riding on the footpath against the flow of traffic, none can be made for those that ride on the footpath with the flow of traffic.

    Lost in translation

    News, Postbag, Published on 02/03/2017

» I enjoyed Somsak Pola's comments in his March 2 letter, "Writing without rules" about the Thai vs English languages. However I take exception to: "The problem with Grade 6 students, however, is not regarding writing. It is about misspelling, using slang and colloquialisms which should be easy to fix. Mai pen rai."

    Recover the money

    News, Postbag, Published on 04/06/2016

» Can someone explain why Klongchan Credit Union members, who lost 12 billion baht, are not officially represented by the justice system? The Justice Minister (BP, May 31) is correct in saying that they appear to have been forgotten.
